- Strickland, B., (2001) The Ultimate guide to the Ultimate Ride: Mountain Biking. McGraw Hill Pub.
- Miller, L., (2001) The Beginner’s guide to In-Line Skating: Get Rolling. McGraw Hill Pub.
- Fahey, T. D., (2001) Fit and Well. Core concepts and labs in physical fitness and wellness. 4th Ed. Mayfield Pub.
- Student can utilize their own bike and in-line skates, or may rent for a fee of $50.00
Course Description:
- For the PE Teacher candidate to experience, implement, and instruct lifetime activities in their Physical Education curriculum.
Course Objectives: WI Teaching PE/HE ED.
- To gain knowledge and experience in the skills and teaching of lifetime activities. 2, 4
- To develop practical application of Health-related fitness. 1, 2, 3
- To develop the essential skills and the capacity to teach a wide variety of activities. 2, 3, 4
- To develop teaching method experience with organizing, planning, implementing, and administering a total program of Physical Education. 2, 4
- To create a Risk Management plan for the activities in a Physical Education setting. 6, 9
Assessment:
- Develop and instruct 1 - 30 minute lesson activity
- Provide copies of lesson and activity to all class members
- PE Majors create a Unit plan for 1 Lifetime Activity
- HP Majors create a workout plan for a client
- Use and record two weeks of a heart rate monitor on computer
- Assist in the instructing and supervision of activity at PHS or Lancaster for 3 hours.
- Daily attendance required
7. Reflection on teaching and assisting at PHS/Lancaster.
Activity Schedule:
1. Street/Mountain Biking Weeks 1-2
2. Frisbee Golf Weeks 3-4
3. fitness walking/jogging/hiking Weeks 5-6
4. In-line Skating Weeks 7-8
Grading: Assignments:
*LATE ASSIGNMENT WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED AND WILL RECEIVE 0 PTS.

B =337-300 Peer Teaching 100 pts
C= 299-262 Unit Plan/Workout 50 pts
D= 261- 225 3 hours PHS 50 pts
F= 224-0 Reflection paper 50 pts
Professionalism 100 pts
Total pts 400 pts
Extra Credit:
Member of HPE Club 20 pts
HPE Activity 10 pts for each
