Chapter 17

Civil War

For this option of the test, you will be telling me a story about the Civil War. You should set it up as a true diary. Or let’s say you have a dear, sweet relative who wants to know what you’re learning in Social Studies and would like a “crash course” on the Civil War (still diary set-up!). What would you tell him/her? What is important for them to know?

In this diary make sure you include AT LEAST the following information:

a. When did the war begin?

end?

b. Why did the war begin?

c. Who were the Presidents for each side? (North/South)

d. What were the strengths/weaknesses of the North/South:

Give at least 2 examples EACH!!!!

e. List at least 3 significant battles (ex. Battle of Fort Sumter,

First or second Battle of Bull Run, Battle of Antietam, Battle of Shiloh, Battle of Gettysburg, or Battle of Chancellorsville)

f. Include at least 3 generals

g. What was the turning point of the war?

h. Economic Effects of the War. (p.509)

i. Wrap up the war! How did the war end? Where did “they”

surrender?

j. What’s next? How do we plan on rebuilding our nation?

i.e. reconstruction
