Two fully-funded 3-year PhD studentships available from October 2012

Towards Fully Printable Complementary Electronics on Flexible Substrates

Supervisor: Dr. Martyn McLachlan

Duration: 36 months

Applications are invited for two PhD studentships investigating new electronic materials and device applications. The projects are funded by KAUST and based in the in the Department of Materials at the central London Campus of Imperial College although the successful candidates will spend time at the sponsor for research exchanges.

King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) is an international, graduate-level research university. Research at KAUST focuses on areas that are important to the future of Saudi Arabia, the region and the world and takes place in world-class facilities serving students, researchers and faculty in disciplines such as energy and environment, water desalination, industrial biotechnology, and scientific computing.

The projects are focused on addressing key challenges related to oxide electronics including i) reducing the processing temperature of i high-performance oxide-based active layers, ii) developing solution processable p-type oxides, iii) developing low-cost, large-area deposition techniques for these novel materials, iv) correlating processing methodologies with performance in a range of near future device applications.

We are seeking candidates with a minimum 2:1 (or equivalent) first degree in Materials Science, Chemistry or Applied Physics.

This 3-year studentshipwill begin in October 2012 and will cover rate fees at the home/EU rate plus the standard maintenance stipend of £15,590 per annum. Applications will be processed as received.

You will work within a team of dynamic PhD Students and Research Associates, in newly refurbished laboratories on the South Kensington Campus.
