Ideas and Activities to Share

· “Me” collage, together cut out pictures and phrases that describe their personality and interests, glue them on poster board

· Trace around the youth’s body or hands while they lay on butcher block paper, ask the youth to write all the words, or phrases to describe themselves.

· Pick up a book of names and share the meaning of each others names

· Make a video of activities you have done together

· Write a story; have the youth write the first sentence then you write the second sentence, alternating each sentence

· Design a perfect paper airplane – have a contest to see which one can fly the farthest.

· Plant a garden together – learn how to care for plants

· Play a game neither of you have ever played

· Go to an outdoor movie or concert in a local park

· Ride the bus or train someplace, have lunch and ride it back

· Identify birds, plants and trees in your yard

· Build a castle out of sugar cubes

· Learn how to use a camera, make a scrapbook with the photos

· Learn how to use the computer

· Make RootBeer floats or popsicles to share on a sunny day

· Enjoy a sunset or sunrise

· Learn 100 words in another language

· If you play an instrument, teach the youth how to play it

· Bring the youth to work with you for a job shadow

· Build sand castles at the beach

· Do a service project together – showing the importance of community service

· Have lunch at school with your youth

· Play a sport together, modeling good sportsmanship

· Build a fort or clubhouse together

· Go on a bike ride together

· Go fishing together, if the youth does not know how to fish offer to teach him/her

· Make snow angels or snowman

· Go bowling, or skating

· Use sidewalk chalk to play hopscotch

· Make dinner together – go to the grocery store and buy the supplies to prepare together

· Give each other facials, pedicures or paint fingernails

· Write a letter to a serviceman/woman and mail

· Write thank you cards for gifts; birthday, Christmas, etc

· Pick fruit from an Orchard – apples, pears, blueberries, strawberries, etc.

· Take a tour of a local hospital, fire station or police station
