In the year following the 2014 edition, seven firms successfully concluded financing rounds for a total of €44M (€50M).
The highest capital investment raised through support from the investor summit stands at €28.8M ($31M) for LED manufacturer Aledia (FR) in 2015.
Since the investor summit began in 2008, it has helped candidates raise close to €150 million in aggregate funding.
Smart Technology Markets
InPho 2016 is highlighting market areas it perceives offer investors the most bankable opportunities: mobility, big data and healthcare, IoT, and the smart grid
· Mobility and Smart Vehicles
The global market for driverless-cars g is expected to reach $42 billion by 2025
According to the Boston Consulting Group, autonomous cars might create a $42 billion market for the technology by 2025. Self-driving cars, building on technology already available in many luxury vehicles, will be able to navigate crowded city streets by 2022 and may make up a quarter of worldwide auto sales by 2035. Japan and Western Europe will probably adopt the technology most quickly, its study found.
Sensors technologies are ready for autonomous driving applications.
Multiple sensing technologies will ensure many market opportunities for tier 1 players, tier 2 players and newcomers alike. By 2030, sensors for autonomous cars could be worth $36 billion. (Source: Sensors and Data Management for Autonomous Vehicles report 2015 (October 2015 edition)
The automotive market is turning electric.
· The power electronics market for EV/HEV will reach $13B by 2021 (Source: Power Electronics for EV/HEV 2016: Market, Innovations and Trends, Yole Développement, 2016).
Innovative Healthcare
A consumer healthcare market is emerging.
Industry insiders estimate that in five to ten years, accurate information about our health will exist more outside the health system than inside the system.
An increasing number of healthcare applications are using bioMEMS (biomedical microelectromechanical systems) components. The bioMEMs market is expected to triple from $2.7 billion in 2015 to US$7.6 billion in 2021 (Source: BioMEMS: Microsystems for Healthcare Applications 2016, Yole Developpement).
· IoT
At the end of 2015, there were over three billion people connected via the World Wide Web – and more are joining every second (ITU, 2015).
For example, 15 billion "things" have already been digitally networked via the web. But that is just the start of the Internet of Things (IoT). Experts from Cisco expect 50 billion devices to be interlinked via the IoT by 2020. The potential number of networkable objects has been estimated at 1.5 trillion.
· The Smart Grid
The smart grid market size is expected to grow from $19.77 billion in 2016 to $65.42 billion by 2021, at a Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 27.0% during 2016–2021 (source: Smart Grid Report by Solution Service – Global forecast to 2021). According to West Monroe Partners, a consulting firm with a division specializing in utilities and the electrical grid, innovation is taking on the edge of the grid – distributed energy generation and soon battery power. It is happening outside of the utilities’ control and the market is deciding which new technologies and companies will dominate.
