A new gaming device has been released in March 2017 called The Nintendo Switch.

It is a type of a handheld and console gaming device that can be taken anywhere by players at anytime. Similar to the Wii or DS, the Nintendo Switch allows players to play as a solo, in teams and even battles against each other.

Prachi Thaker is a grade nine student who plays with the Nintendo Switch. “ I feel like the Nintendo Switch is a good game. It’s travel friendly, fun, and great to play with friends”, Thaker says.

It is said by many that the controllers of the switch are pretty cool. They come with a social share button that allows one to take screenshots of what they are playing. They also come in different colour pairs such as grey controllers or blue and red neon ones.

Although the Nintendo Switch has gone through success, it also faces many hurdles throughout the months of its release.

Ishman Dewan, a grade eleven student talks about his experience with the new gaming device, “ I would prefer if the kickstand on the back didn’t come off as easily, and sat at a sharper angle so I can use it on a desk, but that can be fixed by resting it on something. I also would have preferred if the back was made of a different material because even though my screen has no scratches, the rear is covered in them, and I can't put a skin on it because there is a problem with the plastic, according to Dbrand.” Dewan says.

Students who are interested in purchasing the new Nintendo switch can find it at many stores with the price ranges between $250-$430.

Why did you decide to purchase the nintendo switch?

I purchased the Nintendo Switch because I wanted to play Nintendo's first party exclusive games on the go, including brand new games like super mario odyssey, or old ports of console games like Mario Kart 8, which was made portable with the switch version. I was also excited for the ability to play games that are normally console exclusive on a portable, like skyrim or Doom.

1. How are you feeling about the nintendo switch model?

I think the console is very well made, with the exception of a few quirks. Its mostly made out of plastic, including the screen, buttons, volume controls, and casing. I would prefer if the kickstand on the back didn’t come off as easily, and sat at a sharper angle so I can use it on a desk, but that can be fixed by resting it on something. I also would have preferred if the back was made of a different material because even though my screen has no scratches, the rear is covered in them, and I can't put a skin on it because there is a problem with the plastic, according to Dbrand.

2. How does the Nintendo switch work?

The nintendo switch is a hybrid video game console. On the top left hand side there is a power button that turns it on. From there the switch turns on the screen and can now run games. It has the capability to switch between tv (docked) mode and handheld mode in an instant. The docked mode increases the GPU speed 308Mhz to 768Mhz.

3. Would you recommend others to make this purchase?

100% must buy console, it’s amazing if you want to play all the new nintendo first party exclusives like Super Mario Odyssey or Xenoblade Chronicles 2, and the portability along with power makes it perfect for playing console sized games on the go. It's also just good as a time killer, the 3- 6 hour battery is good enough for short range flights, while having the console experience but in a cramped chair next to an obese snoring person beside you.

4. How did you feel about purchasing a console with significantly fewer launch titles than competing systems?

The launch title list was quite short but the number of announcements was very high when I bought it. When I bought the switch, Breath of the wild was already out, while Super Mario Odyssey, Skyrim, Payday 2, Arms, and Mario Kart 8 deluxe were announced for the switch. I also trust Nintendo in general because they never fail to make a good console with good first party games. With the exception of the virtual boy.

5. Is the asking price (400-450 CAD) reasonable for the Switch?

I think it’s a fair price for what you get, even though it's not quite as powerful as the xbox one its still powerful enough to run its games, such as Doom or Wolfenstein 2, but on the go.
