Behavioral Lesson Plan

Universal Expectation: Be Respectful

Name of the Skill/Setting: Dismissal in classroom

Purpose of the lesson/Why it’s important:
·  So we can hear busses being called and people don’t miss their busses.
·  So that everyone has a quiet space to work on what they need done if they choose to do so.
·  So everyone in the classroom stays safe.
·  So both teacher and students can be heard when something important needs to be announced.
·  So that if the teacher is talking to a parent or another adult they can have a conversation and you all look and sound respectful.
·

My Expectations:

1.  Everyone is in a chair or a desk and cannot move after the first bus is called.

2.  Everyone is using inside voices.

3.  Everyone is quiet as soon as loud speaker comes on.

4.  Students must stay in the classroom until bus is called.

5.  Cameras, cell phones or any electronic devices must be put away.

Teaching Examples:
Show them when first bus is called what is acceptable movement to an area of their choice for the remainder of dismissal.
Show them once they are in a seat, a friend calls them over- what would be inappropriate behavior (ie: getting up to go to another seat)
Show them what would be appropriate behavior if a friend calls them over after they are in their chosen area.
Show them what happens when they get up (ie: they must go back to their original assigned seat.
Show them how is sounds using inside voices.
Show them what will happen if they leave the classroom when their bus is not called.
Show them what will happen if they do not hear their bus being called and they miss it.
Show them what will happen if teacher sees a Camera, cell phones or any electronic device out (ie: they lose it until at least the next dismissal).
Kid Activities/Role-Plays:
·  Have a student play Dr. Ellwood on loud speaker. Have just a small group of five of them show the class the appropriate way to move to their area of choice.
·  Have one of the students who moved call one of the other students over to look at something at the computer. That student should then show the class what he/she would say or do appropriately.
·  Have one of the students be Ms. S, another student will call me over to talk in the corner and I will model what would happen if I chose to get out of my chosen seat (I must go back to my assigned seat)
·  Have a student show the class what they would do if they wanted to listen to music.
·  Have the students practice the appropriate volume in order to hear busses being called.
·  Have student practice writing busses that are called on the board
Follow-Up Reinforcement Activities:
·  During actual dismissal, remind them of expectations
·  Practice during real dismissal appropriate behavior
·  Next day, practice during class time, whatever needs to be reinforced
