B. Ohio Early Learning Content Standards for English Language Arts—Session I Part 1 &2
TIME: 8:00 am to 1:15 pm (Must attend both sessions to receive full credit--5 hrs)

Pre-requisite: The Building Blocks (Previously called Ohio Early Learning Content Standards Overview)

Early Childhood Program Administration Participants will examine ways to support literacy in the early childhood environment through implementation of the Ohio Early Learning Content Standards.
To register for H.A.P.P.Y. SPRING conference, complete the enclosed Registration Form and return it to HAPPY HOMES by April 12, 2010. The registration fee is $20.00 for H.A.P.P.Y. Homes Members or P.F.D.C.P.A. Members (membership dues must be current). Non-members registration fee is $25.00.
Space is limited. When registering for trainings, please mark one all day training or 1st and 2nd choice on registration form. Trainings will be filled on a first-come basis.
The registration fee is non-refundable
No walk in registrations will be accepted
· All participants will receive ODJFS in-service credit (with OPIN) & CDA credible. Must attend all session to receive full credit.
· Each class relates to Core Knowledge Areas and Early Learning Content Standards Indicators.
· IACET CEU’s. Learner outcomes will be assessed. *IACET-CEU credit will not be awarded retroactively. *The IACET-CEU’s are granted by the Ohio Child Care Resource & Referral Association (OCCRRA) through Child Care Connection.
To receive credit for training you must be:

Overview of county paperwork and a walk-through inspection with Trumbull Certification Specialists.
D. Discovering the Arts and Science with children
Presenter: Marie Economos, MA, OSU Extension Educator
Learning new and exciting ways of teaching a variety of science concepts using hands-on techniques with children in Early Childhood.
E. Literacy using the newspaper
Presenter: Sue Ann Taylor, Newspaper and Education Coordinator at the Youngstown Vindicator
Participants will explore the hidden literacy educational aspects that the newspaper brings to the preschool classroom and how they all relate to the Ohio Early Learning Content Standards. Pre K –Grade 3.
F. Steps to Success
Presenter: Heatherlyn Day
Participants will learn new ideas to incorporate reading, exercise and nutrition into snack time.
G. Nursery Rhymes
Presenter: Rosalee Walters
If you are a hands-on learner this may be the class for you. Rosalee will share with you multiple ways to teach Nursery Rhymes using the OELCS. In Kindergarten the children need to know many of these Rhymes. Rosalee will refresh your Nursery Rhyme memory bank. Be prepared to carry home lots of new ideas.
H. A Child in Your Care—Living with a Chronic Illness: Focus on Asthma & Diabetes
Presenter: Francine McBride, Program Education Coordinator for CHMC Mahoning Valley
Describe the special needs of a child in your care with asthma or diabetes and any specific supplies and/ or conditions needed. Identify the concerns of both the parents and childcare providers in caring for a child with asthma or diabetes. Demonstrate the proper method of administering medication to a child with asthma or diabetes. Identify reputable community resources available to assist in the care of a child with asthma or diabetes.
I. Conflict Resolution
Presenter: Joseph French, M. ED Step-Up-to-Quality Approved
Which best describes you: organized, enthusiastic, easy-going, or decisive? How do others view you? Does your personality cause conflicts? This workshop will examine the four basic personality types and help the participants discover their strengths. Learn how to resolve conflicts and better understand others!
J. Successful Meal Planning & Record Keeping (2 hours)**10:45to 12:45 pm
Presenters: Leann Riley, B.A. Child Development & Teresa Moe, B.A. Early Childhood
CACFP training will include a record-keeping training and a nutrition piece that will contain an appropriate hand washing demonstration for adults & children.
**(Must be sponsored by one of Ohio's Child & Adult Care Food Programs to attend session)
Eastern Gateway Community College (1/2 hour session) 12:45 pm-- 1:15pm
Presenter: Sondra Sutherland
Short presentation about attending the Early Education program at the new Eastern Gateway Community College. There are three convenient locations in Trumbull and Mahoning Counties.
