Over the course of the semester we will have a series of healthcare/alternative therapy practitioners presenting information about their health care field.

1. Each student will take turns greeting a speaker in the main office, escorting them to our classroom and introducing them to our class. At the end of the presentation, the student will thank the speaker.

2. Each student will take notes during each presentation outlining the information presented by the speaker. Asking questions during the presentation will require some prior research on the topic to formulate good questions. Students will then choose any two of the presentations (see #3 below) and prepare a report for submission.

3. Each student will prepare a thorough report for any two of the presentations. Answering the following questions:

a) What is _____________________________, its philosophies and practices? (e.g. philosophies of Naturopathic Doctors include “Do no harm”, “The body as self healer”; their practices include diagnosing and treating various medical conditions.(3)

b) Who benefits from ________________________? (1)

c) What education is required and what are the prerequisites needed for the program? (2)

d) How long is the program, how much does it cost and what courses will you take? (3)

e) What are the job opportunities and salary after your finish? (2)

f) What are the duties/responsibilities of a ____________________? (What do they do) (2)

g) What are the possible locations of work? (clinic, hospital, etc.) (1)

h) What are the possible hours of work? (9-5, shifts, etc.) (1)

i) What are 3 pieces of interesting information about ___________________, and why? (6)

j) What are some common instruments, equipment and materials used for patient care? (4)

k) Outline safety issues and safe practices for this type of work. (2)

l) Report on various procedures used an outline one procedure in detail. (4)

m) List the essential skills and work habits important for this career according to the Ontario Skills Passport at www. skills.edu.gov.on.ca. Why are they important? (4)

n) Could you see yourself choosing this career? Why or why not? (3)

o) Write up a proper bibliography of resources. (2)
