STEWARDSHIP SECONDS

Yoking ourselves and our financial resources with Jesus and others lightens all our burdens.

Pronunciation?

A man and his wife were driving their Recreational Vehicle across the country and were nearing a town spelled Kissamee. They noted the strange spelling and tried to figure how to pronounce it - KISS-a-me; kis-A-me; kis-a-ME. They grew more perplexed as they drove into the town.

Since they were hungry, they pulled into a place to get something to eat. At the counter, the man said to the waitress:

"My wife and I can't seem to be able to figure out how to pronounce this place. Will you tell me where we are and say it very slowly so that I can understand."

The waitress looked at him and said: "Buuurrrgerrr Kiiiinnnng."

Thank you to all who attended the June 4 service - my official farewell as choir director. Your presence, as well as your kind sentiments, either in person or on the big card, made the day so very special. The choir’s musical offerings, with the help of several alumni and 3 capable conductors meant so much. Diane’s tribute was very kind. My sincere appreciation to Jamie and Darrell Swiscoski and their helpers who prepared the beautiful luncheon. Thank you to the congregation for the gift card. And thank you also to Susan for knitting it all together into a wonderful, heartwarming service. - Wilma MacMillan

JIGG Summer Worship – Sharing Our Faith

John Black, Immanuel, Gordon-King and Grey Street United Churches will be sharing worship services this summer. For a detailed listing of worship times and locations, please see the document on the table in the narthex.

In the June Issue of THE UNITED CHURCH OBSERVER:

· "Resisting Genocide" – In August 2014, ISIS slaughtered and enslaved thousands of Yazidis in northern Iraq. Now, survivors are returning, determined to preserve their homeland and ancient faith.

· "Southern Exposure" – When Nunavut residents get sick, they often go to Ottawa for medical care. For Inuit who have never left the North, the experience can be disorienting.

· "Undocumented" – Caught in the cracks of the immigration system, half a million people in Canada lack official status and fear deportation, even as cities offer sanctuary.

Copies of The Observer are available for borrowing from the magazine rack in the narthex. Back issues are available in the Library in the multi-purpose room.
