Post: / Project Worker – Out of School ServicesResponsible to: / Team Leader – Out of School Services
Purpose of Job:
· To assist in the efficient and effective delivery of the Out of School Care service for children and young people between the ages of 5-16 years.
Major Tasks/Job Activities:
· To help create a safe and stimulating environment that provides school age children with opportunities for overall development.
· Participation in the planning, running and evaluation of a high quality day to day programme of activities for school age children.
· Registration of school age children attending the project on a daily basis.
· To work with children in groups - taking responsibility for running an activity and encouraging co-operation and communication within the group.
· Setting out of equipment, planning, preparation of materials and activities in advance of each session. Evaluating work and clearing away at the end of session.
· Ensuring that equipment is safe, complete, regularly cleaned and maintained.
· To promote anti-racist, anti-sexist and non-discriminatory attitudes through play activities and discussion.
· Taking responsibility for children and young persons both within the provision and on outings and trips.
· Undertaking escort duties including delivery and collection of school age children to and from local schools when required.
· To participate in regular supervision, team meetings and training courses as required.
· To support, encourage and assist volunteers and students working in the organisation.
· To encourage positive relationships with other children and adults.
· Liasing with parents and carers.
· Undertaking other duties when required.
Minimum Qualifications and Training:
A number of qualifications are relevant:
· S.V.Q Level III in Playworker (or working towards)
· Community Education or equivalent Qualifications
· Other qualifications not mentioned above, will be considered as to their suitability on the basis of course content.
Minimum Experience:
· Proven and relevant experience in promoting children’s and young persons development through play in group settings e.g. After School Clubs, Youth Groups, Junior Youth Clubs is required.
Complexity:
In the performance of the above tasks, the Project Worker will be required to demonstrate:
· Recognition of the benefits of informal play and youth group activities for the social and personal development of children and young people.
· The ability to communicate effectively with young persons, parents, students and colleagues.
· Awareness of the importance of equal opportunities, multi-cultural play opportunities, health and safety and child protection issues.
Hours: / 22 per week (full time during school holiday’s)
Salary: / SCP scale 13-22 (£16,048 – £19,830) Pro Rata, Qualification bar £17,876 (SCP 18)
