Grammar Level 2: Course Goals and Objectives

Goal 1: Students will demonstrate basic oral and written proficiency with past tense and wh-questions.

Objective 1: Students will be able to distinguish between who and what.

Goal 2: Students will demonstrate basic proficiency with common English verbs that have irregular past tenses.

Objective 1: Students will demonstrate increasing proficiency with form pasting tense in the following verbs: cost, cut, forget, give, hit, hurt, lend, make, shut, spend, blow, draw, fall, feel, frow, keep, know, swim, throw, win, become, bend, bite, build, feed, fight, hide, hold, shake, and understand.

Objective 2: Students will be able to distinguish before and after in time clauses.

Goal 3: Students will be able to show basic ability to use and understand the past progressive.

Objective 1: Students will be able to form the past progressives and distinguish its use from simple past tense.

Goal 4: Student will be able to demonstrate basic proficiency with the future tense.

Objective 1: Students will be able to form the future tense by using be going to.

Objective 2: Students will be able to use common English words for past and future: yesterday, last week, minutes ago.

Objective 3: Students will be demonstrate basic proficiency with a couple of, a few with ago.

Objective 4: Students will demonstrate elementary proficiency with will in forming the future tense.

Objective 5: Students will be able to use clauses with before, after, and when in the future.

Objective 6: Students will be able to use if with future tense verbs.

Goal 5: Student will demonstrate elementary proficiency with English modals.

Objective 1: Students will be able to distinguish between may, might, and will.

Objective 2: Students will be able to use can and know how to.

Objective 3: Students will be able to use could and form can and could in the past

Objective 4: Students will be able to use should, have, and must.

Goal 6: Students will be able to use modifiers in basic sentenes in English.

Objective 1: Students will be able to use nouns and common adjectives as modifiers of nouns.

Objective 2: Students will be able to use expressions of quantity.

Objective 3: Students will be able to use and understand indefinite pronouns.

Objective 5: Students will be able to use linking verbs and adjectives.

Objective 6: Students will be able to use common adverbs to modify verbs.

Goal 7: Students will be able to make comparisons.

Objective 1: Students will be able to make comparisons using like and alike.

Objective 2: Students will be able to make comparisons using comparatives and superlatives.
