JOB DESCRIPTION
Job Title: Safety Coordinator Department: Business and Industry
Supervisor: Asst. Superintendent of BIS Personnel
Classification: Non-Certified Adult
Programs Personnel
Job Summary: Plan, organize, schedule and teach safety classes to fit the needs of
business and industry. Develop partnerships with business and industry
to promote available safety classes. Recruit instructors, and maintain
accurate records of safety training provided by Gordon Cooper
Technology Center. Regular attendance is expected.
Essential Processes:
- Teach safety classes, workshops and customized training classes to local industry clients with a focus on retail, services, and health related industries.
- Plan, organize and schedule classes to meet the needs of business and industry. Produce a set number of instructional hours to justify job.
- Establish partnerships with area businesses and industries to determine their safety
training needs.
- Participate in safety conferences and other local meetings that promote workplace safety.
- Prepare to work some flex time (evenings and weekends) to teach safety classes to meet
business and industry shift schedules.
- Keep informed about new safety and health regulations.
- Work cooperatively with other Gordon Cooper Technology Center staff to serve business
and industry.
- Maintain records and reports as required by state agencies, the Oklahoma Department of
Career and Technology Education, and the local administration related to safety and health
training.
- Assist in other duties as assigned by the Assistant Superintendent of Business and Industry
Services, Superintendent and/or the board of education.
Education: Training, certification, and experience in occupational safety field
required. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
Experience: Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in safety or health related field. Experience with business and industry training and curriculum
development, design and implementation preferred. Experience in Career Technology Education preferred, as well as, experience in the instruction of adult students.
Initiative: Must be able to meet people, establish a quick rapport and develop professional relationships. Must be able to produce work quickly on short notice.
Physical
Requirements: Strength – Light walking and sitting required. Some lifting and carrying of required, up to 50 pounds. Other physical demands – talking, hearing.

Requirements:

¨ Must be able to effectively deal with people and differing personality types.
¨ Must be able to work with people to accomplish organizational goals and have good problem solving skills.
