Scholarship

GOAL: To actively advance The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company’s continuing commitment to the promotion of education in engineering.

AWARD: This year, Goodyear has partnered with the University of Akron and Case Western Reserve University to provide scholarship opportunities for students who plan to attend these schools. This is in addition to the annual Goodyear scholarships for students to attend any accredited college or university, which results in a total of $35,000 in scholarship money to be awarded. Overall, eight students will be awarded one of eight scholarships in her/his name to the university she/he is to attend per the following details:

-  (5) $5,000 two-year scholarships ($2,500/year) to the University of Akron to pursue a degree in engineering

-  (1) $5,000 two-year scholarship ($2,500/year) to Case Western Reserve University to pursue a degree in engineering

-  (2) $2,500 one-year scholarships to an accredited college or university to pursue a degree in engineering

PURPOSE: To benefit talented high school students who are pursuing a career in engineering.

Criteria for the distribution of the academic awards:

The applicant should be a high school senior enrolled in a public or private school or home schooled in Northeast Ohio.

  1. The applicant must complete a formal application by March 6, 2014 and submit all required materials which include:

·  One letter of recommendation from a math or science teacher

·  High school transcript

·  SAT or ACT scores (a photocopy of the official score report)

·  Picture Yourself as an Engineer Essay (see description below)

  1. The applicant must provide evidence of acceptance into a baccalaureate undergraduate engineering program or a letter of intent. (Copy of official acceptance letter must be provided prior to check being issued to the school in the winner’s name. If evidence is not provided by August 15, 2014, the scholarship is forfeited to the runner-up.)
  2. Academic Status: Must have a GPA of 3.0 or greater
  3. Eligibility: U.S. Citizen
  4. Applicant should attend the Goodyear Engineering Career Day on April 12, 2014. Alternatively, in the case of a scheduling conflict for an applicant for the 2014 event, any previous Goodyear Engineering Career Day attendance can be used to qualify for the scholarships. We would, however, strongly prefer that applicants attend Engineering Career Day 2014. Please make any scheduling conflicts known when submitting an application.

f. Picture Yourself as an Engineer Essay: Essay can be in any form: written essay, video, website, etc. Be creative! Submission should cover the topic of ‘Picture Yourself as an Engineer.’ Show us how you picture yourself as an engineer and why you want to be one!

Submit all application materials to with the subject line reading ‘Your name - ECD 2014 Scholarship Application’. Please note that the maximum file size accepted by this e-mail address is 15 MB, so if you wish to submit a multimedia essay, you may need to use an online host such as YouTube and include a link with your application. Schools may e-mail transcripts or letters of recommendation separately if necessary as long as the subject line is the same as specified above.
