And Wednesday / Goal: What is Biology?
1. Make name tags to put on desks for the first few sessions.
2. Pass out books and create book lists
3. Create posters: What is Biology?
• Brainstorm in groups of 4
• Discuss as a class
• Create a poster board visually describing the concepts of Biology.
4. Homework:
• Complete student/parent signature and info sheets (5 pts)
• Skim/read Ch. 1 – What is Biology?
5. Quick Quiz – Rules and Procedures next class session.
August 18-19

Friday / Goal: What are the characteristics of life?
1. SOD – pick up drawing and improve it based on what you learned from 1.1
2. Turn in Student/Parent Information Sheets
3. Go over any questions about rules/procedures.
4. Quick Quiz: Rules and Procedures
5. Challenge Activity: Various items will be place around the room.
Students are to identify if the items are alive or not alive. See pg. 7.
6. Notes/Discussion Characteristics of living things
Homework: Skim pg. 35-43.

Tuesday / Goal: How do abiotic factors affect biotic factors in an ecosystem?
How do the levels of organization in nature relate to each other?
1. Discuss abiotic and biotic factors. Levels of organization: Organism,
Population, Community, Ecosystem.
2. Quick Quiz over 2.1 pgs. 35-43
3. Biotic v. Abiotic Factors Field Study: Create a list of items. 5 biotic/5
abiotic. Write down how the abiotic factors affect the biotic factors.
4. Pg. 41 – Inquiry Guided Questions
Homework: Describe your habitat and your niche.
August 24 – 25

How do niche and habitat relate to you?
What are specie interactions?
1. Problem Solving Lab 2.1: Due in class.
2. Collect and read Student descriptions of their niche and habitat, while they work
on the 2.1 Problem Solving Lab.
3. Lecture: Species Interactions
4. Begin video on the Wolves. Check with Weidman for the copy of it.

• Teach your group about the cycle you are reading about.

else you would like to add.
