Directions: Using the content standard provided, brainstorm to identify and list reading and writing activities you may use in your classroom to facilitate student learning of the content standard. Use the ELAs Appendix D Reading and Writing Standards for Science and Technical Subjects and/or the Alabama Insight Tool for Literacy in All Content Areas to crosswalk the activities listed to determine which reading and writing standards have been included.

Hospitality and Tourism

Directions: Closely read the content standard and student assignment provided. On your own, list the reading and writing tasks required to complete the assignment. With your content specific group, discuss the various tasks you all listed. Identify reading and writing activities and standards you may use in your classroom to facilitate student learning of the content standard. Assign a group leader who will share your findings during the large group discussion at the end of this exercise.

6. Compare types of recreation, travel, and tourism activities.

· Examples: amusement parks, museums, sporting events, destination vacations, cruises, spas, resorts, tours, attractions, theaters, reunions

Student Assignment: The class is preparing for an upcoming field trip. Choose and investigate two to three field trip destinations. After investigating the different destinations, write a comparative summary providing evidence of why you would choose a particular destination. After choosing a destination, develop a multimedia presentation to convince the class to select your destination for the field trip.
