NOTICE OF PROFESSIONAL VACANCY

The Hamburg Central School District seeks candidates for the position of Director Food Services who will be responsible for managing a lunch program according to policies, procedures, and federal/state requirements. Responsibilities include developing and maintaining high standards of food preparation and service with emphasis on menu appeal and nutritional value; establishing and maintaining high standards of sanitation and safety; maintaining records of income and expenditures, food, supplies, personnel and equipment; and facilitating cooperation with education partners such as administrators, teachers, parents and students. The incumbent supervises and trains food service personnel. Does related work as required.

TITLE: Director of Food Services

CLASSIFICAITON: Competitive

EFFECTIVE DATE: June 19, 2017

Minimum Qualifications:

1. Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered four year college with a Bachelor’s degree with specialization in food service administration, nutrition, institutional or hotel management or similar field; or

2. Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered two year college with an Associate’s degree with specialization in food service administration, nutrition, institutional or hotel management or similar field and four (4) years of institution management, hotel administration or restaurant management involving large quantity food service; or

3. Graduation from high school or the possession of a high school equivalency diploma and eight years of experience in institution management, hotel administration or restaurant management involving large quantity food service;

4. Any equivalent combination of training and experience as set forth in A,B, or C above.

NOTE: Training in a college, university or technical institute may be substituted for experience on basis of six months of training is equal to one year of experience.

Other applicable qualifications may be added or substituted at the discretion of the Superintendent of Schools.

Typical Work Activities:

1. Plans and supervises the preparation and service of lunches in a large school or in several small schools;

2. Plans menus or recommends changes in master menus with due regard for nutritional values, acceptability and budgetary limitations;

3. Determines requirements and submits requisitions for foods, supplies, and equipment;

4. Prepares layouts and makes recommendations for maintenance of and additions to equipment and plant;

5. Maintains approved standards of sanitation, health and safety;

6. Supervises and trains school lunch personnel, makes staff assignments and evaluates work performance;

7. Assists in the selection of school lunch personnel;

8. Receives, inspects, stores and distributes supplies and maintains inventories and related records;

9. Supervises the collection of and accounting for cash receipts;

10. Makes reports relating to school lunch program activities;

11. Provides information to school staff, students and community agencies which will promote increased interest in the program.

Full Performance Knowledges, Skills, Abilities and Personal Characteristics:

Good knowledge of the fundamentals of nutrition and their application to the health of children; good knowledge of all phases of the school lunch program; good knowledge of the principles and practices of large quantity food preparation, menu planning, purchasing, equipment selection and care, sanitary food handling and storage; ability to plan and supervise the work of others; ability to train personnel; ability to keep records and prepare reports; ability to maintain good personal relations with children and adults; ability to understand and carry out oral and written directions; initiative; neat personal appearance; tact and good judgement; courtesy; resourcefulness; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.

SALARY: To be determined

SCHEDULE: This position is a 10-month position (September 1 through June 30); and includes up to 15 required days to be worked during the months of July/August.
