LIBA partners with Louisville Water to make the Buy Local Fair more environmentally responsible

Louisville, KY (May 12, 2016) –The Louisville Independent Business Alliance (LIBA) is striving to make this year’s Buy Local Fair the most environmentally responsible one yet, and they’re inviting attendees to join in. In partnership with the Louisville Water Company, LIBA is incorporating several new green initiatives into the event, including composting, serving only 100% compostable beer cups (5,000 cups!), and even encouraging the food vendors to use compostable items, or else they pay a small penalty. With help from Brightside and Good Garbage, LIBA has arranged for over a dozen volunteers to act as on-site “trash talkers” to help make sure the waste items are placed in to the appropriate containers. Attendees are also invited to BYOB (bring your own bottle – for water!) to fill up for free at the Louisville pure tap® to GO stations.

Presented by Louisville Water Company, admission to the Buy Local Fair is free and parking is $5 per vehicle or free for bicycle parking. The 8th annual event runs Sunday, May 22, 2016 from 12:00pm-6:00pm at Louisville Water Tower Park.

The fair will include several green themed vendors including Good Garbage and Louisville Sustainability Council. In total, there will be more than 200 booths featuring local businesses, artists and craftspeople, community organizations, and farmers, as well as a craft beer tent sponsored by ValuMarket, over 25 food and drink vendors, a cooking competition between Harvest and Ward 426, aerial circus acts, a silent auction, and the H2O Kid’s Zone where kids can meet Tapper, the Louisville Water mascot.

“LIBA wants to keep Louisville green, as well as weird,” says Jennifer Rubenstein, director of LIBA. “Our hard working committee has been essential in keeping us moving towards environmentally stable practices – these community connections are what makes it all possible.”

Guided historic walking tours are available during the Buy Local Fair from 1:00pm-5:00pm, on the half hour. Enjoy a teaser tour, then stop by the WaterWorks Museum desk for information on planning your return visit to the Museum.

The 2016 Buy Local Fair is presented by Louisville Water Company and sponsored by Louisville Metro Council, Amish Hills Furniture, Eclipse Bank, VO2 Multisport, ValuMarket, Carmichael’s KIDS, Louisville Magazine, Louisville.com, Louisville Public Media, LEO Weekly, The Trend Appliances, YELP Louisville, Maloney Outdoor Advertising, Heaven Hill Brands, Cox's Smokers Outlet and Spirit Shoppe, Nanz & Kraft Florists, WAKY, and Good Garbage.
