Use one of these imaginary recipes (or your own) as an example of recipes the students will create for Miss Fiona’s cider and pie. You can copy and paste onto recipe cards or Halloween themed paper.

Fiona’s Secret Recipe Apple Cider*

6-3/4 cups swamp water

1 dozen wormy apples

• 1-1/2 tsp. frog slime

• 2 cups chopped bat wing

• 1/2 tsp. lizard lips

• 1-3/4 tbsp. black cat whiskers

• 3 cups scorpion broth

• 2-2/3 tsp. caterpillar fuzz

• 1 chopped toadstool

Combine all ingredients in a black cauldron. Stir well. Simmer over fire for 3 days. Strain and serve hot. Serves 13 thirsty witches.

Fiona’s Stupendous Pumpkin Pie**

1 plump ripe pumpkin

1 lizard

1 toad

A few good bat wings

1-1/2 cups minced goblin tails

1/3 tbsp - hair of newt

2-1/4 cups brown sugar

2-2/3 tsp. cinnamon

1 tbsp. nutmeg

2 crow’s eggs (slightly beaten)

1/2 tsp. Salt

1 ready-made pie crust (in 9” pan)

1. Mix first 5 ingredients together and bake in lightly oiled pan at 325 degrees for 30 to 40 minutes, or until pumpkin is tender. Cool until just warm and mash or puree.

2. Heat oven to 450 degrees.

3. In a large mixing bowl combine all ingredients, one at a time, stirring well after each addition. Pour mixture into unbaked pie crust. Place a strip of aluminum foil around edge of crust.

4. Bake 10 minutes at 450 degrees, then reduce temperature to 350 degrees. Bake additional 40-50 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into center of pie comes out clean. Remove the foil strip around pie 20 minutes before pie is done to brown the crust edge.

5. Let cool and “serve it a la mode!”

Serves 8 hungry trick-or-treaters.
