We’re off to catch a dragon, and how will we catch one?
We’ll make a fancy dragon trap with lots of rope and string
We’ll bait it with a carrot or maybe a parrot,
Then stand behind a great big rock and wait for it to spring

ü All About Me
ü When I Get Mad I Beat My Drum – Sandy Offenheim (p.96)
When I get mad I beat my drum.
Dum da dum, dum da dum, dum da dum da da dum.
I beat my drum till my arm gets numb.
Dum da dum, dum da dum, dum da dum da da dum.
I beat my drum right through the day
Dum da dum, dum da dum, dum da dum da da dum.
Until that BAD MAD goes away.
Dum da dum, dum da dum, dum da dum da da dum.
When I get mad I beat my drum.
Dum da dum, dum da dum, dum da dum da da dum.
When I get mad I beat my drum.
Dum da dum, dum da dum, dum da dum da da dum.
*What else can you do when you’re mad?
Jump up high…right to the sky
Pound the floor…till it says, “No More!”

- Musical Concepts:
- Developmental Concepts:
- Key of F
- 4/4 time
- F Chord (FAC), C7 Chord (CEGBb), Bb Chord (BbDF)
*I would make a game out of this song. It’s similar to telephone. Students will pick out their favorite food or drink to bring on the “picnic”, and as more students add on to the list, they will have to retell the previous student’s food or drink.
It’s easier to get children interested when we get them involved and when we learn about them. In my experience anyways, children (especially at a young age) love to learn new stuff that they can do or just learn new things about them in general. It interests them when they tell someone else about themselves or if they learn something new about themselves. We want to gradually make students more and more independent.
