Felony Traffic Stop Commands
· First Officer –
o Driver - put the car in park
o Driver - roll down all the windows
o Driver – with your right hand unbuckle your seat belt
o Driver – with your right hand turn off the vehicle
o Driver- place both hands out of vehicle with keys in your hand
o All other passengers – place hands where I can see them
o Driver- drop the keys out of the window
o Driver-open door from outside
o Driver - Exit vehicle slowly facing away from my voice
o Driver – place your hands above your head
o Driver – slowly close your door with your right toe
o Driver – With your right hand reach behind your back grab your collar.
o Driver – With your right hand pull your shirt up until I can see your waistband.
§ If driver has jacket on make them remove it slowly.
o Driver- Slowly make a 360 degree turn toward my voice.
§ Check for weapons at waist band
§ Alert each other if a weapon is seen. Location
§ Once the visual check is complete continue
o Driver – Take 5 steps toward my voice.
§ Place the driver in between the vehicles – May be more or less steps
o Driver – Take two steps to your right.
§ Place the driver in front of your partner and behind their vehicle
o Driver- Slowly go to your knees, then to your stomach, place your hands away from your body palms up.
o Driver – Cross your legs at your ankles
o Driver – place your right hand on the small of your back
· Second officer
o Place hand cuffs on suspect
o Tell the suspect that you will engage the double lock
o Tell the suspect to roll toward your voice, and you will help them up
o Take the suspect to the side of the vehicle
o Search the driver
§ Any contraband or weapons found should be communicated with your other officer
o After search complete place suspect in vehicle.
· REPEAT FOR ALL PERSON IN CAR.
