SUBJECT: Call for Nominations – Distinguished Faculty Ranks for 2017-18 and 2018-19

On behalf of Chancellor Zimpher and the SUNY Trustees, I am pleased to invite nominations for appointment to one of four Distinguished Faculty Ranks: Distinguished Professorship, Distinguished Service Professorship, Distinguished Teaching Professorship, and Distinguished Librarian.

The Distinguished Faculty Rank is above that of full professor and is conferred solely by the SUNY Board of Trustees as a promotion in rank or an honorific distinction. Eligibility criteria for each of the Distinguished Faculty Ranks is explained in the attached Policies and Procedures for academic years 2017-18 and 2018-19 (also available online) and described briefly here:

· Distinguished Professorship recognizes faculty who have achieved national or international prominence through research and scholarship or artistic performance or achievement.

· The Distinguished Service Professorship recognizes faculty who have earned a notable reputation for service not only within SUNY but more broadly, to the state and nation.

· The Distinguished Teaching Professorship recognizes faculty for outstanding teaching competence at the graduate, undergraduate, or professional levels.

· The rank of Distinguished Librarian recognizes transformational contributions in creating a new information environment and fostering information literacy.

Upon appointment, Distinguished Faculty are inducted into the SUNY Distinguished Academy, leveraging their collective expertise to address System-wide, state, and global challenges.
