El Futuro

de los verbos regulares

(explanation found on page 140 in the textbook)

Actually, we have already learned one way to talk about things that are going to happen:

‘Ir a + infinitive’ can be used to express future events.

Examples:

– Voy a comer.

– Ella va a estudiar.

– Yo voy a leer.

– Tú vas a jugar.

– Nosotros vamos a hablar.

– Ellos van a dormir.

But there is another future tense in Spanish!

However, the other one that we just reviewed (‘ir a + infinitive’) is actually more common in everyday conversation.

To form the future tense of regular verbs, simply add these endings right onto the infinitive:

--é --emos

--ás --éis

--á --án

Here is ‘leer’ in the future tense, as an example:

leeré leeremos

leerás leeréis

leerá leerán

And here is ‘estudiar’:

estudiaré estudiaremos

estudiarás estudiaréis

estudiará estudiarán

And here is ‘escribir’:

escribiré escribiremos

escribirás escribiréis

escribirá escribirán

Note: There are twelve common verbs that are irregular in the future tense. Just for reference, they are: caber, haber, poder, querer, saber, poner, salir, tener, valer, venir, decir, and hacer.
