Add to SSP39010 when pavement reinforcing fabric is specified. Projects specifying pavement reinforcing fabric placement where the asphalt concrete thickness is less than 40 mm over the fabric requires approval from Materials Engineering and Testing Services, Office of Pavement Standards.

Existing unstable base or AC must be removed and replaced prior to placement of reinforcing fabric.

Immediately prior to placing binder, fiberglass polyester paving matpavement reinforcing fabric, and asphalt concrete surfacing, the pavement shall be cleaned of loose and extraneous materials such as, but not limited to, vegetation, sand, dirt, gravel and water.

2

Before placing the fiberglass polyester paving matpavement reinforcing fabric, a binder of paving asphalt Grade PG64-10 7010 shall be applied uniformly to the surface to receive the fiberglass polyester paving matpavement reinforcing fabric at a rate of not less than 1.150.9L per square meter of surface covered. When pavement reinforcing fabric is placed in areas of conform tapers, the binder shall be spread at the approximate rate of 1.4L per square meter of surface covered. The exact rate of application of asphalt binder will be determined by the Engineer.

3

Pavement reinforcing fabric shall not be placed in areas of conform tapers when the thickness of the overlying asphalt concrete will be less than 40mm.

4

Asphalt concrete surfacing shall be placed over the fiberglass polyester paving matpavement reinforcing fabric in the same work shift that the mat fabric is placed.

5

Fiberglass polyester paving matpavement reinforcing fabric shall not be exposed to public traffic, Contractor's equipment or elements that will damage the mat fabric prior to placement of asphalt concrete surfacing.

6

Asphaltic emulsion shall not be substituted for paving asphalt binder for fiberglass polyester paving matpavement reinforcing fabric.

7

Full compensation for cleaning pavement immediately in advance of placing binder, fiberglass polyester paving matpavement reinforcing fabric, and asphalt concrete surfacing shall be considered as included in the contract price paid per square meter for fiberglass polyester paving matpavement reinforcing fabric and no separate payment will be made therefore.
