NOMINATION FORM

Eligibility Requirements for Elon Sports Hall of Fame

Former Elon student-athletes, coaches and administrators who had outstanding careers while associated with Elon may be nominated for induction into the Elon Sports Hall of Fame under the following requirements. The nominee must have:

1.  Completed at least two full seasons at Elon.

2.  Been truly outstanding.

3.  Been of good character.

4.  Had ten (10) years elapsed since his/her last year of intercollegiate competition.

Generally an induction class will not exceed six inductees. An anonymous committee with widespread knowledge of Elon Athletics selects inductees annually. The University’s Director of Athletics, Sports Information Director and Director of Development for Athletics assist the committee in processing the nominations. The University’s administration has veto prerogative. The selections are made in the spring and the induction ceremony is held annually, generally on a designated home football date. The inductees may choose those who are to induct them (usually a former coach, teammate, classmate, etc…). The inductees and their families are guests of the University for a day. Each inductee is presented with an engraved plaque and commemorative lapel pin. A permanent plaque listing all inductees is displayed in the Koury Center’s Atkins Room – home of the Elon Sports Hall of Fame.

As part of the ceremony, each inductee is requested to present some memento of his/her athletics career to the Athletics Department for display in the Atkins Room trophy cases.

The Director of Development for Athletics handles all details related to the ceremony along with assistance from the Sports Information Office.

Once presented as an eligible nominee, an unsuccessful candidate shall be automatically reconsidered annually until he/she has been considered 10 consecutive calendar years. Thereafter, renomination may occur at anytime.
