WHAT NON-RECYCLABLE WASTE MATERIALS DOES WESLEYAN HANDLE IN SPECIAL WAYS?

Fluorescent Bulbs – These contain mercury and other metals. They are collected and safely stored by the Physical Plant, then transferred to a licensed universal waste handler for safe disposal.

Aerosol Cans – Both the can and the contents pose risk in the event of rupturing. These are collected and safely stored by the Physical Plant, then transferred to a licensed universal waste handler for safe disposal.

Chemical Hazardous Waste – Wesleyan is EPA-compliant and has protocols in place to minimize production and safely collect hazardous waste for disposal by licensed hazardous waste handlers.

Medical and Related Biological Waste – “Red bag” waste produced in the Health Center and biology labs is collected and transferred to a licensed biomedical waste handler for safe disposal.
