*New / Fundraiser Project / Golf Ball Drop / A Golf Ball Drop involves selling tickets to the public. Each ticket is numbered and that number corresponds to a number on a golf ball. At the actual “drop”, the first ball in the cup, or alternatively, the ball closest to the cup wins the grand prize. One of the major expenses for the Golf Ball Drop can be the acquisition of the golf balls. In our case, we borrowed the golf balls from another service organization and avoided the expense.
The choice of equipment used to drop the balls can run from Bucket Loaders to Hot Air Balloons. We chose to combine our Golf Ball Drop with a well established community event rather than holding it as a stand-alone event.
Our first attempt at this event grossed $13,000 at $10 a ticket while expenses, including prizes, were $6,325. With one Golf Ball Drop experience behind us, both gross and net revenues should improve for subsequent events. / John Dupee
