DIGITAL PHOTO ASSESSMENT PROPOSAL

For this assignment, you will propose a media-based assessment approach that you can use in a lesson or unit you currently teach as part of your curriculum.

Instructions

1.  Reflect on the different ways in which students can use digital photos to create products that demonstrate mastery of content and technology standards.

2.  Think of a lesson/unit for which you could assign your students the task of creating a digital photo product that will be used to assess their performance. (Note: We encourage you to use a lesson or unit that you are already teaching, but for which you are using a more traditional assessment approach now).

For students in Kindergarten students will use Keynote or powerpoint
7.  What criteria will you use to assess the digital photo products? (list) / ·  Students will be assessed based on their ability to locate objects and words that start with letters for the alphabet.
·  Students will be assessed on their use of a basic digital camera

Think About It

10.  What does a teacher gain from using digital photo products as part of the assessment for this lesson/unit? (list) / ·  It will allow the lesson to be more concrete. Students will be able to associate letters/sounds with objects and text.
·  As an alternative assessment, it will give additional data on what letter or sounds students may be having difficulty with.
·  It will enable the teacher to see that students know their letter names and sounds, and that they are not memorizing the letter and sound
11.  What possible challenges should the teacher plan for when using digital photo assessment products in this lesson/unit? (list) / ·  Lack of cameras for individuals or groups
·  Access to Keynote and Iphone on laptops
·  For me, I have multiple 30 minute classess, so finding enough time
·  Students not familiar with digital cameras, keynote, and Iphoto
