A long-time leader in the MemorialCare health care system, Dr. Diana Hendel is CEO of Long Beach Memorial Medical Center, Community Hospital Long Beach, and Miller Children’s Hospital Long Beach, all part of the MemorialCare Health System, a leading Southern California not-for-profit integrated health care delivery system. The three Long Beach hospitals – with 6,000 employees, 1,500 physicians, and 1,044 acute care beds – have annual revenues totaling more than $1 billion.

After earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Biological Sciences from the University of California, Irvine and a Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of California, San Francisco, Dr. Hendel began her career at Long Beach Memorial, first as a Clinical Pharmacy Resident. Over the past 23 years, Dr. Hendel has held positions on all of the MemorialCare campuses, including executive director for MemorialCare and the Physician Society, vice president of Operations at Anaheim Memorial, administrator for the San Clemente campus of Saddleback Memorial and, most recently, chief operating officer of Long Beach Memorial.

Dr. Hendel is a graduate of the California Health Leadership College and is also a graduate of the Memorial Academy – a year-long educational program within the MemorialCare system. She received MemorialCare’s prestigious “Living Out Leadership Award” in 2006. In 2010 she received the Press-Telegram’s “Amazing Woman of the Year Award” for Health and Wellness. She was honored as “Women Making a Difference CEO of the Year” by the Los Angeles Business Journal in 2011.

Dr. Hendel has also been actively involved in a number of community service and professional organizations. In addition to being Chair-Elect for the Long Beach Area Chamber of Commerce, she currently serves on the Board of Directors for the California Council for Equality and Justice, California Children’s Hospital Association, Long Beach Police Foundation Advisory Committee, and Southern California Leadership Council. In addition, Dr. Hendel is one of the Ukleja Center’s William Dickson Faculty Fellows, having served as Leader-in-Residence in 2012-2013. Diana is also the mother of two children, a 13-year-old son and a 10-year-old daughter.
