Admissions: DSST is a Denver Public Schools (DPS) Charter High School, and conforms to DPS regulations with respect to admissions procedures for charter schools. There is no tuition charge to attend.
Admission to DSST will be granted through a LOTTERY PROCESS, see pages 9-11 for the complete lottery procedure.
What We Need To Know: There are no minimum academic requirements for admission to DSST. However, we need to know a lot about you for assessment and placement purposes. Include the following with your application. All items should be mailed in one package and received by Jan. 25th, 2006.

Parental/Guardian Release for Use of Student Information/Photos
This release permits the Denver School of Science and Technology (DSST) to use the following items for publication on the school website, in school brochures, and in other school promotional materials:

9th & 10th Grade Lottery Process
The Denver Public School board has approved a two pool lottery in order to help us achieve our 40% low income admissions goal which serves to diversify our community and fulfill the DSST mission. DSST believes that a diverse community furthers the educational goals of the students and the school community. Students who qualify for the free/reduced lunch program, and provide documentation of this status, are classified as Morgridge Scholars, all other students are considered General Population.

2006-2007 9th Grade Lottery Process
DSST will admit 130 students to our 9th grade class using the following process:
Step 1: The lottery for 9th grade will be conducted on Feb. 1st, 2006. The applicant pool will be divided into two groups: The Morgridge Scholars (free and reduced lunch) and the general population. All Morgridge Scholar applicants have submitted a financial report as part of their application.
Step 2: It is determined whether any of the applicants are residents of Stapleton. They are admitted to the school.
Step 3: It is determined if there are any “founding families” in our applicant pool. We are defining “founding families” as applicants whose parents have participated on one of the four main committees that have worked on the establishment of the school…Board of Directors, Advisory Board, Fundraising Board and Admissions Advisory Board. They are admitted to the school. Once the lottery has been conducted, students that fall into this category will be added to the appropriate waitlist, based on the financial documentation provided with the application.
Step 4: Students automatically admitted as founding families or Stapleton residents will be classified as Morgridge Scholar or General Population. It will then be determined what number of students needed to be drawn from the Morgridge Scholars lottery pool to achieve 40% low-income.
Step 5: The lottery for Morgridge Scholars is then conducted. The number of students admitted will equal the amount of Morgridge Scholars needed to make up 40% of the 130 students. The remainder of the students will be placed on a waitlist in the order of the list generated by the lottery.
Step 6: The lottery for general population follows the Morgridge Scholar lottery. General population students fill the remaining numbers of admission places to reach 130 students. The remainder of the students will be placed on a waitlist in the order of the list generated by the lottery.
Step 7: During the week of Feb. 5th, 2006, all applicants will be contacted and informed of their status, either via letter sent to applicant home or e-mail.
Step 8: Informational interviews of all accepted applicants will be conducted on Feb. 22nd, 2006.
Step 9: Students have until Mar. 1st, 2006 to notify DSST of their decision to accept or decline the admission offer. No response will be considered a declination of the offer. After Mar. 6th, 2006, DSST will begin contacting applicants on the appropriate waitlist to fill in additional slots.
Step 10: Students will be selected from waitlists according to the status of the admitted students withdrawing from the admission process or decline admission offer. For example, if a Morgridge Scholar declines admission the first student from the Morgridge Scholar waitlist will be selected to the spot. If any automatic admits withdraw from the admissions process or decline admissions offer, students will be taken from the waitlists, alternating Morgridge Scholars waitlist and general population waitlist.
2006-2007 10th Grade Lottery Process
The number of 10th grade openings will not be determined until mid – Apr. to late May 2006. There is no guarantee that we will be admitting additional students to the 10th grade class.
DSST is following DPS policy for filling 10th grade openings. The waitlist will be re-ordered to include the newly submitted applications. Should DSST admit students, the process outlined below will be followed:
Step 1: Students remaining on the 2005-2006 9th grade waitlist will be contacted mid - Apr. and informed of the 10th grade lottery process. If students have a continued interest in being apart of the 10th grade lottery, they will need to submit any additional components, including a current 9th grade report card. Students that wish to be added to the Morgridge Scholar waitlist must also complete a free/reduced lunch application. Information on when additional components need to be received, and the date the 10th grade lottery will take place, will be included in the correspondence to families about the 10th grade lottery waitlist. No response will be considered a declination to remain on the waitlist.
