DO NOW Activity

Closure Activity

LINKS

Goal: Develop an activity that is differentiated that will assist the students in LINKing concepts.

Method:

1. List key term on sticky note or sentence strip. There will be one key term per student within a group.

2. As the students enter the room, each student receives a LINKing key term. If using sticky notes, they might be located on the front board. As students enter, each student selects a term off the board.

3. Students within the pair discuss the possible relationship between these two terms.

4. Students continue to LINK terms to another person’s term.

5. Continue this process until all terms of all members of the group are LINKED!

6. Each student is responsible for recording their response to share with the class or another partner grouping.

7. Have the students reflect upon the importance of LINKing terms and ideas.

Assessment: As each student works to complete the task, the teacher monitors accuracy, and checks for understanding. The teacher can assess pupil progress, accuracy of answer, creativity of response or application of the concept.

Closure Variation:

Pass out key terms and have the students review how the ideas were connected during the class period.

To challenge or differentiate for students you may give different sets of terms and see if the entire class can LINK together.
