Clinical and research focus on asthma, environmental allergies, food allergy and latex allergy

Scope of Clinical Practice:

1996-present University of Maryland Allergy/Immunology Outpatient Clinics, Pediatric Subspecialty downtown practice (1-3 clinic sessions per week)

1996-present University of Maryland Medical System Inpatient Allergy/Immunology Consultative Service and On Call coverage (Covered 100% for 9 of last 20 years and 50% coverage since 2005. Average 2-3 consults per month and 24 hour On Call coverage).

1997-2001 Established the clinic and provided care to UMMS employees for screening, evaluation and management of latex allergy.

1998- 2014 Established and provided ongoing clinical service for first off-campus UM Allergy Practice (located at Shipley’s Choice Medical Park), until move to current location in Hanover, Maryland (2 sessions per week).

1999, 2002, 2004 General Pediatrics Ward Attending (2-4 weeks each year).

2002-present Established and provide care on the Breathmobile, a mobile asthma clinic providing free specialty based preventive asthma care at Baltimore City Schools. Medical Director 2003-present, responsible for obtaining grant support to establish and sustain the program, administration, training and oversight of staff and management of data collection and analysis.

2007 Established dedicated food challenge clinic in hospital space (previously conducted during outpatient clinic sessions) including food challenge protocols and procedures and safety measures to meet JCAHO requirements and improve patient/family experience. (1 session per week)

2014-present University of Maryland Allergy/Immunology outpatient clinic at Hanover, MD. (3-4 full day sessions per month).

2016-present University of Maryland Allergy/Immunology outpatient clinic at Lutherville, MD (1 full day session per month)

Current clinical effort: 52% FTE including all outpatient sites and inpatient services

Development of any Clinical Programs:

1996 Established the first full-time Allergy/Immunology practice in over 20 years at the University of Maryland. As Director of Allergy, I developed practice guidelines and procedures and patient education materials. Solo provider for 9 years covering all outpatient clinics, consults and on call services.

1997-2001 Developed the UMMS Employee Latex Allergy Screening program and developed and provided all clinical services for the UMMS Employee Health Latex Allergy Clinic. (On going per diem medical advice provided to present).

1998 Established the first off site University of Maryland Allergy/Immunology clinic at Shipley’s Choice Medical Park (the first suburban multi-specialty practice at University of Maryland).

2002 Co-developed the University of Maryland Children’s Hospital Breathmobile Programs, a mobile clinic providing free specialty based preventive asthma care to underserved children in Baltimore City and surrounding areas. Helped to design the mobile clinic space, develop he electronic medical record system, equipment and testing material ordering, screening processes, coordination with school principals and school health personnel, training of staff and overall clinic guidelines and procedures.

2009 Converted all Allergy/Immunology patient educational materials into Epic and currently working with IT team to convert and integrate Breathmobile visit documentation and ordering into Epic.

2015-present Identified limitations with potential impact on patient safety regarding Epic documentation of food allergy and inpatient food allergy diet ordering. Notified Director of Nutrition Services and IT Epic team and worked with them to improve the food allergy identification and documentation in Epic and interface with inpatient diet ordering system.
