Students Directions
Congratulations! You have just been hired as an investigative reporter. Your goal is to keep yourself informed of the latest news in Atlantic Canada (Nova Scotia, PEI, Newfoundland and Labrador, and New Brunswick). These articles must represent one of the key areas we will be studying this year.
1. Physical Setting- physical features of this region. This unit includes map work, environmental studies, weather, and settlement patterns.
2. Culture- race issues, cultural and ethnic issues, political issues facing Atlantic Canadians and history.
3. Economics – the economic issues and challenges Atlantic Canadians face in the context of global trends and our own economic outlook. (Look for articles about the stock market, interest rates, taxes, unemployment, banking, investment, trade, business, and companies).
4. Technology- Look for articles that explain the role of technology in the past, present or future and how it has affected Atlantic Canadians.
Assignment
1. Find a newspaper article from one of the key areas studied throughout the year, bring it to class.
2. Cut the article out of the newspaper and paste it to your sheet of paper.
3. Write a summary about your article. Explain the main ideas of the article – IN YOUR OWN WORDS!! Who/what is the article about? What happened? Where did it take place? When? Why? And How?
4. Reflect how this article affects or impacts Atlantic Canadians, the country of Canada and how it affects the world globally.
5. What is your opinion of this article? Do you agree or disagree with the discussion explain your opinion.
