Kildare County Council Arts Service seeks good homes for a number of artworks previously commissioned by the service and created by designer John Mangan. The works are life-size metal signs and would make a unique installation hanging in a home, garden or studio. Project curator Brian Cregan invites artists and artistically minded people to make an expression of interest, in the form of an artwork, as to why they would like to receive one of these road signs. Project participants who receive a road sign will be expected to be photographed with the sign in their own environment.

The project will be launched online on Culture Night 2014.

This Culture Night we are delighted to present, an exhibition of wildlife paintings by Sarah Corner. Taking inspiration from the landscape around her, Corners paintings reflect a passion for painting the natural world.

Artist Peter Curling, an admirer of her work, says:

“Sarah’s paintings show a remarkable feel for the Irish landscape, wildlife and all animals in their natural surroundings. Her unique handling of oil paints and her subtle palette give her paintings a special light and help her to capture the stillness of the quiet corners she chooses to paint. Her affinity with nature comes across strongly and the smaller details in her paintings have been closely observed, giving the work an authenticity which is rarely found.”

Mark has a First Class BA from NCAD. He has exhibited widely, including Pixxelpoint Slovenia, The Lab Dublin, The Museum of the Moving Image in New York, Dublin City Gallery The Hugh Lane, the Kevin Kavanagh Gallery and Visual Carlow. He has also exhibited in Tokyo, Milan and Berlin.

Derrybeg Farm

An Introduction to Derrybeg Farm

Time: Friday 19th September from 5pm

Address: Derrybeg Farm, Moortown, Celbridge opp. Salesians College on old Maynooth Road

Email:

Tel: 087 619 5518 (Nathan)

Web: www.derrybegfarm.ie

Derrybeg Farm is an example of community-supported agriculture (CSA), a community who contract the work of growing food to a young local grower, Nathan Jackson. Building a direct relationship between the farmer and the members who consume the food produced, these members pay in advance, thereby ensuring a regular payment for the grower. If the harvest is good, the members get some extra food, if the harvest is poor, the members get less, but the grower still gets paid.

Growing at Derrybeg commenced only in April 2014, but are nevertheless providing food each week for over 30 households. We have room to grow and spaces for more members.

Come for a walk around and meet some of the members. Experience the work involved in running a holding of this size, see the layout, the food as it grows, the tools used, the modern and age-old solutions that are employed. Bring wellingtons in case it's mucky ! Suitable for all ages.
