COURSE REQUIREMENTS

Materials:

·  Textbook – Algebra 1

·  3 Ring Binder with loose leaf paper

·  Folder

·  Pencils and erasers-ALL tests and quizzes need to be completed in pencil.

·  TI-84 graphing calculator (TI-83 is also acceptable)

Grading:

Your grade will be based on the weighted averages in the following areas: tests/quizzes, homework, and in class assignments. Quizzes will be given after every few sections, and tests will be given after each chapter. In order to receive the maximum number of points on tests and quizzes, you must show all of your work. Partial credit may be given so it is pertinent that you show all of your work as clear and concise at possible.

Weighting Scale

Tests/Quizzes: 75%

Homework: 15%

In Class Assignments: 5%

Other: 5%

**These percentages will change in the 2nd and 4th Marking Periods when students take the midterm exam and final exam. Midterm and Final Exams are worth 25% of the overall 2nd and 4th Marking period grades.**

Classwork/Homework:

Class notes are given each time a new concept is presented to you. You are expected to take notes every day. It is your responsibility to keep your notebook organized and intact. Notebooks and notes will be checked randomly throughout the year for a grade.

Homework is assigned almost every night. You should expect to spend an average of 20-30 minutes out-of-school time on homework every night. Homework will be checked on a regular basis. Homework assignments must be complete in order to receive full credit. You will receive two points if an attempt was made on every problem and you show ALL of your work. Incomplete homework will receive half credit at the teacher’s discretion. If you receive a zero on a homework assignment, you can make up the assignment and turn it in the next day for half credit. Homework will be recorded and stamped on your homework log sheet. It is your responsibility to bring your homework log to class with you every day. All assignments must be accurately recorded on your homework log. You will be given a homework grade several times throughout each marking period, and the points accumulated can add up to anywhere between 50 -70 points.

Make-Up Work:

If you are absent, be sure to check the bin in the back of the room for missed work. It is your responsibility to get the notes and make up any missed assignments. In order to get full credit for any make up work, it is YOUR responsibility to show it to me the next day. If you are absent for a quiz or a test, it is your responsibility to schedule a time to make it up after school. If the only day missed was that of a quiz or test, you are expected to take the quiz or test on the day you return. As per school policy, the number of days allowed for making up missed work is equivalent to the number of days that you were absent. For an extended absence, special arrangements can be made. Please make it a priority to submit your work. Any work not made up in a timely manner may result in a zero.

Study Island

As part of the Algebra 1 course, students are expected to take the Algebra 1 Keystone Exam. In order to help prepare students for the exam, students will be expected to complete Study Island Assignments. These assignments are computer based and will count towards the student’s grade. Students are required to show all work on separate paper in order to receive full credit.

After-School-Clinic:

Students coming to after-school clinic should be prepared to ask specific questions and should bring their binder with attempted problems. Students needing extra help should seek it at the earliest possible time rather than waiting until the last minute such as the day before a major test. Clinic is held every Tuesday and Thursday from 2:15-3:00. If you would like to meet on a non-clinic day, please set up an appointment with a teacher.
