PATIENT SELECTION
REFINITY Skin Refining System may be used for patients just beginning their AHA treatments, patients who have received previous in-office peel treatments and patients with sensitive skin. Patients with dry, oily, or combination skin types may be candidates for this treatment. Physicians have reported the best results with a 70% glycolic acid peel, such as found in the Skin Refining System, may occur after a patient has been using a home maintenance program for at least two weeks prior to their first in-office treatment.
PEEL TREATMENT PROTOCOL
For the most effective results we recommend series of six peels in which each peel is performed every two weeks. The treatment time can be increased based on client reaction. The maximum treatment time clinically observed is 12 minutes. Following the initial 12 week treatment program we recommend a maintenance program of a once monthly in-office peel treatment. A six peel series of treatments can be scheduled annually depending on the client’s skin type, age, photo damage, and other cosmetic factors.
PRE/POST TREATMENT INSTRUCTIONS
· The following products and procedures should not be used on the peel site:
Ø 48-72 hours prior/after use of Alpha-Hydroxy acid-containing products, Bleaching or Skin Lightening Agents, Waxing or any products that contain ascorbic acid.
Ø Two weeks prior/after using Retin-A, Renova, or other prescription skin care products within two weeks or any Chemical Peel.
Ø One month prior/after getting any Surgical Procedure or Laser Procedure.
· It is important to know if the patient is taking any prescription drug for treatment of a skin disorder and any history of allergic reactions to any of the peel ingredients in the Skin Refining System products.
· NO TREATMENT SHOULD BE PERFORMED IF ANY OF THE FOLLOWING CONDITIONS EXIST AT THE PEEL SITE:
Ø Infection or disease/cut or broken skin/sunburn/history of “cold sores” herpes
· Patients should understand that the Skin Refining System treatment may be part of a comprehensive skin care program recommended by the physician which could include:
Ø Regular use of REFINITY skin solutions home use products (product use can be resumed 48 hours after peel treatment. REFINITY cleanser and toner are safe to use at all times).
Ø Sun protection
· Women who are pregnant or nursing should consult their physician before treatment.
· MICRODERMABRASION: We have anecdotal data of various doctors combining REFINITY and microdermabrasion on the same day; however the safest recommendation we suggest is to perform microdermabrasion and REFINITY one week apart.
