HORIZON SCIENCE ACADEMY CLEVELAND LAUNCHES PARENT EDUCATION SERIES ON BULLYING, INTERNET ISSUES, HOMEWORK STRATEGIES AND DEPRESSION

CLEVELAND, OH, JANUARY 5, 2011: Furthering its commitment to informing parents and reaching out to the community, Horizon Science Academy Cleveland is partnering with PSI of Twinsburg, OH to provide a series of parent education workshops for parents and other members of the community in Cleveland. PSI provides educational services to the Horizon Schools in the areas of school psychology, speech therapy, health, educational specialists, and ESL.

The monthly series begins on Thursday, January 27, 2011 at 6 PM at Horizon Science Academy Cleveland, 6000 South Marginal Road, Cleveland, OH. The opening topic is “Turning Bullies into Buddies: How to Help Your Child.” The speaker is Karen McKelvey, Ed. S. from PSI. This workshop will include:

· Why current anti-bullying approaches and models are often ineffective

· Why both bullies and their victims behave the way they do

· Effective strategies for parents to implement when their children are bullied

Additional workshops will be offered during February, March and April 2011 on the following topics:

· Homework Strategies- Helping Your Child

· Internet Issues: What They Do At Home Ends Up at School the Next Day!

· Depression: How to Recognize It & What to Do About It
