Job TitleEvents and Deputy Visitor Manager

Principal ManagerHead of Tourism and Retail

Purpose of PostTo report directly to the Head of Tourism and Retail on the management, planning and execution of events; Working alongside third party organisations where appropriate. And to assist with the operational management of the tourism department.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the Head of Tourism and Retail with all aspects of the events and tourism business.
  • Time to be divided 50/50 between Events and Tourism.
  • To report to the Deputy Agent in the absence of the Head of Tourism and Retail.

Events

  • Operational management and organisation of all public, corporate, charitable and private events
  • Research and make proposals for new events and improvements to existing events.
  • Take ownership of event budgets
  • Work alongside third party event organizers, contractors and colleagues when appropriate, supporting in the operational delivery.
  • Negotiate fees with suppliers and order equipment
  • Produce briefing notes for all events
  • Produce schedules of work for event set up and breakdown.
  • Management and organisation of staff for events

Tourism

  • To arrange staffing, management and administration of all Estate car parks. To include day to day staff supervision, staff training, provision of tickets and accompanying information, cash handling administration of staff time sheets and payroll.
  • To join the team of duty managers working weekends on a rota basis.
  • To attend promptly to personal written, telephoned or e-mailed enquiries relating to tourism and the recreational services offered.
  • To assist with the co-ordination of the Estate’s educational initiatives whether formal or on the basis of informal visits.
  • Assist with the administration, review and renewal of interpretation as a recreational and educational attraction.
  • Monitor facilities for less able visitors, ensuring adequate staff training, proper management of the services provided and maintaining adherence to the legislation and amendments or updates thereto.
  • To assist with preparation, administration and delivery of marketing. Including management of website, development of social media strategy currently implemented via facebook, twitter, instagram, production of creative and engaging literature, hard copy advertising and communication.
  • To liaise closely and at all times with the Retail Department to ensure combined and smooth delivery of services to the visitor to standards expected.
  • To liaise closely with all members of the Estate staff, particularly Heads of Department, to ensure the responsibilities of the role are delivered properly within the whole management of the Estate’s interests, be they property, land, personnel or financial.

This is not an exhaustive list of duties and may be amended from time to time within reason according to the needs of the business and for the better fulfilment of the role and liaison with Devonshire Group colleagues elective in the Devonshire Estates and Businesses.
