Topics:
1. How do you remove the infamous “http://www.conduit.com” software from your computer? Some residents have reported this ad software has completely taken over their computer while not allowing access to other web sites or home pages through Internet Explorer.
2. How do you reset your Internet Explorer home page after it has been taken over by unwanted software or adware?
3. How to use the Advanced Google Search web site.
The Problem: www.conduit.com
Your web browser home page was changed to “http://www.conduit.com” and/or your default search engine was changed to “search.conduit.com”. Conduit appears in the URL Window of your web browser after you execute a search. Connectivity to the internet is slow and unstable. Your web browser has one or more toolbars that you don't recognize or remember having installed.
The Solution:
To restore your PC back to its original state prior to being infected by the Conduit program, you first need to uninstall the Conduit program and then restore the settings of your default web browser, whether it is Internet Explorer, Firefox or Chrome. This is a 2 step process.
Step A – Remove Conduit Program:
1. Close all open applications including Internet Explorer.
2. Left click on the “Start” button.
3. Left click on “Control Panel”.
4. Left click on “Programs and Features” (for Vista or Windows 7) or (for XP “Add or Remove Programs”).
5. Left click on the word “Conduit” in the “Name” column. This will select the line.
6. Left click the “Uninstall” button. When the “Conduit” line disappears you are done.
Step B – How to Reset your browser “Home Page”: (Conduit and other adware will automatically set your home page to their web site.)
1. Close all open applications including Internet Explorer.
2. Left click on the “Start” button.
3. Left click on “Control Panel”.
4. Left click on “Internet Options”.
5. Make sure the “General” tab is selected.
6. Just below the “General” tab is the “Home Page” section with a white window.
7. Delete everything inside the Home Page” window.
8. Inside the empty “Home Page” window type “about:blank” without the double quotes. There is a single “colon” between the words with no spaces.
9. Just below the “Home Page” window is “Startup”. Left click the option button marked “Start with home page”.
10. Left click the “OK” button.
11. Exit “Control Panel”.
12. Start “Internet Explorer” called IE. You should see a blank screen inside “Internet Explorer”.
13. Click on your “Favorite” link inside IE to display the web page you want to call your “Home Page”. If you forgot to save your Favorite home page to a link then type the link inside the IE URL window. If you don’t know how to type the URL then type something close. For example: yahoo.com or comcast.net then press enter.
14. Once you have your home page displayed the way you like it you are ready to save your home page for the next time you start IE.
15. At the top of the IE screen, left click on “Tools”.
16. Left click on “Internet Options”.
17. On the General Tab, under the white “Home page” window, left click on the “Use current” button. You should see the white window change to display the URL of the home page you require.
18. Left click on the “OK” button to close the “Internet Options” window.
19. Exit from IE.
20. Restart IE to check your home page is displayed correctly, if not, repeat the process above.
21. If you haven’t saved a “Home Page” Favorite link then do so now.
