TRACK A BILL IN CONGRESS

Research any current or previous bill that’s been presented in the United States Congress, making sure to include FIVE of the following elements/information:

1.  The name of the bill (full title and #)

2.  The author(s) of the bill and their home state(s)

3.  The originating person or group that developed the idea for the bill

4.  The house in which it originated – including the date it was added to the docket/calendar

5.  The name of the committee(s) that reviewed the bill

6.  Any important quotes mentioned during the bills debate(s)

7.  The final vote report from each house of Congress

8.  Any “riders” that were added to the bill and who authored each

9.  Clips or quotes from various media reports about the bill

10.  The last date it was worked on (either when it was signed, “killed”, vetoed or referred back for further work)

CREATE A FICTITIOUS FACEBOOK PAGE ABOUT A MEMBER OF THE U.S. CONGRESS

Research any current member of Congress and create a fictitious Facebook page for that person.

This “Facebook page” can be made using a computer template or on paper, but is NOT to actually be created.

“Bag it” Supreme Court Case Assignment

Assignment: You will create a “bag it” project that presents information about a major Supreme Court case in American history.

Task: You will essentially be creating a poster board; you will just use a paper bag instead of a poster. The outside of your bag must include “clues” to help your classmates guess what case you researched. These “clues” may include what type of case it is (criminal or civil), the circumstances that led up to the court case (without names), what amendment(s) the case challenged, how it affected U.S. society, how it affects you personally, how many times the case was appealed, the decade it occurred in, etc. The details, facts and “evidence” of the actual case must be included on the inside of the bag. This information should include the title of the case, the exact date when it occurred (year), where the case originated (State), what the final ruling of the court was – including the final vote, and any important evidence or testimony that was discussed during the trial.

·  The number of votes they won in the Electoral College

·  Important events or issues that took place in America during your Presidents term

To show the importance of the Civil Rights Movement, you may complete one of the following activities:

1.  Answer a DBQ (“Document-Based-Question”) analyzing pictures, quotes, news clips from the time era that will help you answer a writing prompt in the form of a multiple paragraph essay.(the paperwork for this is available from your teacher upon request)

2.  Create a poster that depicts key Civil Rights leaders and events.

3.  Write a bibliography about a Civil Rights leader – including a picture.

4.  Create a photostory showing key events in the Civil Rights Movement.

5.  Make a Voki telling the story of one key event in the Civil Rights Movement.

6.  Compare and contrast life for different races before the Civil Rights Movement.

7.  Collect a scrapbook of primary sources from the time era.

8.  Write a fictitious newspaper covering various events from the time era.

9.  Create a timeline showing the events in the Civil Rights Movement.

10. Write an essay about the importance of the Brown vs. Board of Education Supreme Court decision.

Design and make three-dimensional hats, made out of any material of your choice, that depict the hats/jobs of the President – making sure to include an explanation of each hat and examples of activities the President would be doing while wearing each hat.

To ensure you fully understand the vocabulary terms from the Judicial Branch unit, you need to complete one of the following activities:
