Hello all from the Kosec’s
Well we found out at last what was making Barb worse rather than better after starting to take three different medications for ashma.
After going to our family Doc. rather than more specialists, we demanded a chest ex-ray and found she is suffering from pneumonia. They gave here an antibiotic shot and a treatment in the office. Our Dr. was surprised the Pulmonary Dr. did not give her an ex-ray. Now she has that treatment 4 times a day. I hope this helps because she cannot breathe very well. She goes in for a cat scan tomorrow and then back to the Doc. on Thursday. I will keep you all in touch and please remember Barb in your prayers.
Love to all Jim and of course Barb too.

Note from Alex Cerino
Just a note to let you know that I have joined the rest of the Cerino clan and am home recuperating from by-pass surgery.
I had no symptoms but talked to my doctor into getting an electrocardiogram. Well after three other tests I had a catherization.
They told me I had a silent heart attack, they do not know when. One artery was 100 percent blocked and these other’s 60 and up. I had the operation the next day. I guess I am really very lucky that nothing happened. I do have some heart damage but not really too bad. We are fortunate to have a really good heart center here.

NAOMI SOMMER
Our deepest sympathies and condolences are extended to Oliver Sommer and his family on the passing of his wife Naomi Sommer on October 5, 2006. Ollie and Naomi were married 52 years.
Services were held 10 a.m., Monday October 9 at St. Cletus Catholic Church, St.Louis, MO
################
Tom Hickey:
I talked to Madonna Bogacki today regarding Naomi's Sommer’s funeral. Madonna explained to me that the St. Louis chefs (numbering over 200) will be at the funeral home with chef coats & hats supporting Ollie and showing respect from their organization. Since there are four Golden Toque members living in St. Louis, we will be represented too. The St. Louis chefs are a wonderful group of chefs that are willing to help Ollie in this time of grief.
Also, Madonna has committed to supplying information to us regarding the funeral services to Jean Clary for our newsletter. She will also send photographs.

“END OF SNAIL MAIL”
The members and the board of directors
have made the decision to stop mailing the newsletter to members who have e-mail addresses. The newsletter is posted on the Golden Toque website within a day or two after publishing. All newsletters for the past two years are archived on the website. This decision by the board and members present at this year’s annual meeting will save the organization over $2,000.00 yearly and these savings can then be applied to scholarships (See Annual Meeting Minutes).
Mailings to all members with e-mail will be discontinued as of February 1st, 2007. This will allow time for members to get used to logging into the web page and viewing the newsletters before snail mail stops for them. Anyone who has problems may e-mail or contact the Commander Secretary Tom Hickey for assistance. Members who do not have e-mail accounts based on the present Membership Roster will continue to receive a hard copy of the Newsletter from Jean Clary.
Procedures for getting onto the Golden Toque “members only” area of the website.
- Go to web site:
- www.order of the golden toque
- Hit “login” in top right hand corner of the page (sometimes you have to enter the login twice, due to a glitch in the program) “Have patience”.
Username: Using lowercase, type in your first initial and then last name. (example: jdoe)
Password: identical to the above (example: jdoe) Then once you are into the system, you may change your Password. You may then view all areas of the website that are for “Members Only”. To “logout” go again to the top right hand corner where the “login” previously was, click on it and you will be logged out as a member.

GENTLEMEN CHEFS:
We are lucky to have Mr. Al Sullivan and Sullivan University and at their expense hosting the Honorable Order of the Golden Toque internet site and housing our records. We are also thankful in having Chef Hickey and Chef Rhea keeping all the site and records up to date.
The reason for learning and logging on the Toque site is to help justify the expense and time involved in maintaining this site. This can only be established by using the site and you chefs learning how to use the Golden Toque Site. All visits to the site are logged and are called hits.
We also would like to reduce the expense of stamps, envelopes, paper, time and etc. Now those of you who do not have access to a computer or how to use we will still mail the newsletter to them.

The Honorable Order of the Golden Toque,
I am sincerely grateful for the scholarship I have been awarded by the Order of the Golden Toque. It will assist me in continuing my education at Johnson and Wales University and in pursuing my dream of a culinary career.
During your meeting in Charlotte, I had the opportunity to serve the dinner and lunch held at Johnson and Wales. It was a privilege for me to meet distinguished chefs who have helped to shape the culinary profession.
Thank you members of the Golden Toque for my academic scholarship and for your noted contributions to the culinary field.
Sincerely, Megan Samay

Dear Members of The Honorable Order of the Golden Toque,
I would like to thank you again for awarding me the one thousand dollar scholarship this past school year. It is a great honor to be given this award. I will continue to demonstrate hard work, dedication, determination and my knowledge for the good of others. I also strive to learn the most I can and share as much as possible. As a young culinarian, attending Johnson and Wales University and working in the Foodservice field, my passion for cuisine, hospitality and culture blooms constantly.
I will proudly represent The Honorable Order of the Golden Toque and once again, I say thank you.
Sincerely, Douglas Kellner

Dear Mr. Gallagher:
I would be remiss were I not to write you expressing my appreciation for the magnificent reception designed by your faculty and students for The Honorable Order of The Golden Toque this past weekend. Your students' gracious expression of hospitality at each event throughout; their fine preparation and service of the most innovative and delicious of hors d’oeuvres at the opening reception; their awesome presentations of exquisite appetizers each with its coordinated wine as we experienced their preparation in every station of the separate kitchens Saturday evening; the world-class banquet that followed, so perfectly planned, prepared, and then splendidly served by the students as wait-staff leads me to think that I may never experience a culinary event more professionally conceived and presented than this year's Johnson and Wales annual reunion for the members of The Golden Toque.
