Purpose:
The Coordinator of the Climbing Wall Program is responsible overseeing the general operation of the climbing wall and its programs for the SSU campus community. Ultimately the Program Assistant leads the climbing wall staff and programs under the supervision of the Coordinator of Adventure Programs (CAP).
Duties and Responsibilities:
Uphold the Campus Recreation mission and principles
Provide a welcoming, friendly, enthusiastic, and customer service oriented environment for staff and participants
Work in collaboration with the CAP in the hiring process of the climbing wall staff, this including updating applications, creating a hiring timeline, conducting interviews, and making hiring decisions
Inspection of wall semi-annually
Inventory of all climbing equipment
Scheduling and training route setters.
Work in collaboration with the CAP in training climbing wall floor staff, teaching staff, and group facilitation staff and scheduling needs pertaining to route setting
Attend monthly potluck (Last Tuesday of each month)
Create staff, class and special event schedules
Work in collaboration with the Co-Coordinator of CW for special events. (i.e. climbing competition)
Provide direct oversight of floor staff
Create a weekly “411” for staff inclusive of all updates and reminders
Maintain an open means of communication with the floor staff and provide them with the resources necessary to be successful
Create marketing and advertising to promote the climbing wall facility and its programs
Maintain a database of programming evaluations, memberships and participant numbers
Attend and participate in all meetings, workshops and retreats required by this position
Complete a detailed end of semester report
Qualifications
Currently enrolled Sonoma State University student
Previous climbing experience
Ability to provide positive customer service
Ability to organize and file records
Awareness of safety concerns and risk management involved with indoor climbing
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Possess basic computer skills (word, excel, email, etc.)
Reliable, self-motivated, able to make decisions based on Campus Recreation guiding principles, and able to meet deadlines
Ability to work with and manage staff members
Compensation
Pay-Rate $11.25 per hour with opportunities for increases over time.
Average of 10 hours per week in addition to regular Facilitator hours
Numerous Professional development opportunities through Campus Recreation such as regional and national conferences, trainings and certifications.
Start Date
This position begins April 2014 Summer optional.
