Dear Colon Elementary families,
We are pleased to present you with the Annual Education Report (AER) which provides key information on the 2014-15 educational progress for the Colon Elementary School. If you have any questions about the AER, please contact Mrs. Martha Hymer, Colon Elementary
The AER is available for you to review electronically by visiting the following web sites, Colon Elementary’s website at http://colonschools.org/elementary/ and the MiSchoolData site at https://goo.gl/i7SkLd. You may review a copy in the main office at your child’s school.
In order to continue increasing student achievement, the Colon Elementary School Improvement Team, is leading Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) within the building. MTSS is a process involving systems of providing learning opportunities for all children to be successful and for all staff to work collaboratively together. In the area of Reading and Math the Colon Elementary staff will continue to respond to student data using research-based programming and best practice for the benefit of our students.
State law requires that we also report additional information. Families living in the Colon Community Schools have the opportunity to send their children to one of two elementary buildings. The general education classrooms teach the same curriculum however, the buildings offer specialized services and therefore we assign eligible children to those respective schools. Equal opportunity busing is provided for all of the students living in Colon. Colon Elementary School houses an Early Childhood Special Education classroom, two Great Start Readiness Programs, Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th grade students from the Colon community and surrounding Schools of Choice students. All curriculum documents can be viewed at our district Central Administration Office.
Our goals for 2014-15 were to continue to measure test data and improve in the following areas:
· All students at Colon Elementary School will be proficient in Math.
· All students at Colon Elementary School will be proficient in English Language Arts.
· All students at Colon Elementary School will become proficient in Science.
· All students at Colon Elementary School will be proficient in Social Studies.
· In the area of behavior, students at Colon Elementary School will obtain fewer office referrals.
· All English Language Learners at Colon Elementary School will become proficient in the English Language.
The Parent Teacher conferences were held in the fall at Colon Elementary School. The administration, during the 2014-15 school year, did not provide the percentages of participation upon their departure from the district.
While we are proud of all of our achievements at Colon Elementary School, our staff continues to work to improve student success every day. Thank you for your continued support of our students and staff.
Sincerely,
Martha N Hymer
Colon Elementary School Principal
