Light and Shadow Portraits
Photography became the chosen medium to explore light and shadow. Students were photographed and used their portraits to analyze light, shadow and the mid-tones, (gray). The mid-tone range was the drawing we selected to show the specific shapes in their faces. All students worked on abstracting the mid-tone range and traced and transferred these drawings to watercolor paper. The original photographs were assembled and printed excluding the mid-tone range. The student watercolor drawings completed their portraits.
