REDEDICATION OF THAYER MEMORIAL BRIDGE

COMMUNITY NOTES

Mr. Ernest Grolimund, Johnson Heights, expressed his continued concern about the health effects of wood smoke, not only from wood boilers, but also from fires in fire pits.

Councilor White urged residents to be cautious with fires in fire pits.

Councilor Mayhew announced that the application process to have Waterville be designated as a Business Friendly Community through DECD has been completed.

ORDINANCE 94-2015 AMENDMENT TO ZONING, ARTICLE 2, SECTION 2.1.1. (145 KENNEDY MEMORIAL DRIVE)

Brent Burnhardt 129 Merryfield Avenue, spoke neighter for not against, but urged caution and asked the Council to zone the area to allow the business to fit in the area.

Betty Begin, Yeaton, Street, expressed concern over loss in value to the homes in the area.

Stan Theriault, 119 Merryfield Avenue, expressed concerns about increased traffic and stated that this appeared to be spot zoning.

Mr. Gordon, 91 Merryfield Avenue, questioned what the cost would be to maintain the street when black ice formed during the winter months.

Dave Begin, Yeaton Street, questioned how the City Councilor could make a decision when they hadn’t seen the plan.

Steve Aucoin, 35 Ticonic Street, said that this issue was bigger than anti-business vs. pro-resident.

Dave Patenaude, 120 Merryfield Avenue, said that no one would want this in their backyard and said he was not anti-business, but was pro appropriate business.

Dr. Jerald Hurdle, property owner, stated that the noise concerns were inflated, and that he respected the neighbors’ views but urged the Council to look at both sides of the issue.

Sherry Height, 69 Merryfield Avenue, questioned why it was so important to have this business open 24 hours.

Attorney Aaron Rudden, explained that his client was not requesting a zone change from Residential to Commercial, but only from Commercial A to Commercial C. He further noted that the building was currently vacant and had vagrants in it.
