Summary: The Information Technology Support Specialist is responsible for the administration and maintenance, under the direction of the Network Administrator, of the City’s Information System; including but not limited to move/add/change requests, daily maintenance and monitoring, troubleshooting, and providing helpdesk support to all end users.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

· Assists in providing computer/network support relating to software and hardware problems reported by users.

· Troubleshoots (analyzes, identifies and resolves) network, workstation and telecommunications hardware, software, and peripheral equipment problems.

· Coordinates hardware and software maintenance; schedules and performs preventative maintenance; upgrades and tests all computer peripherals; restores and reconfigures operation systems; sets up network connections and installs software drivers.

· Assists Network Administrator with LAN network administration including the implementation of policies, procedures and standards. Coordinates network and PC support; provides administrative services such as network permission assignments, addition/deletion of user(s), and advanced hardware/software support.

· Installs, maintains, and supports desktop computers and servers including file sharing, security, city e-mail, anti-virus protection and other issues as they may arise.

· Performs and monitors network data backup. Performs file/system restoration, as directed by the Network Administrator.

· Assists with development and delivery of IT training for staff on the operation of various software and hardware systems.

· Maintains, at the direction of the Network Administrator, the Active Directory structure on the City’s network system.

· Assists, at the direction of the Network Administrator, with CISCO Call Manager configuration;

· Assists Network Administrator with maintaining inventory of technology related equipment.

· Performs other duties as may be assigned.

Essential Functions of the Job: Position requires the ability to demonstrate dexterity in the use of hands and feet, handle or feel objects, tools or controls, and reach with hands and arms; work requires walking and standing on varying types of terrain and irregular surfaces. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move equipment weighing 24-50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus; visual inspections are necessary and involve small equipment and tools. Must be able to move and transport oneself from one worksite to another. Must be able to perform lifting of hardware and peripherals, supplies and tools; requires climbing, balance, stooping, and kneeling. Verbal communications is required for expressing and exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word, and conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly or quickly.


Hearing is required to perceive information through normal spoken work levels, operation of motor vehicles or equipment. Requires the ability to work flexible hours (including evenings and weekends as necessary); and be able to deal with stressful conditions in a calm and professional manner.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Must have commanding knowledge of Microsoft Windows desktop operating systems, as well as, a working knowledge of Active Directory, Microsoft Exchange and networking concepts; must have extensive knowledge of software applications, including Microsoft Office, Photoshop, Adobe Acrobat, and web applications, etc. Requires special technical knowledge of techniques and procedures of software and network support for multiple users. Must understand installation, configuration and troubleshooting processes of software, hardware, networking and accessory equipment. Requires the ability to independently perform all of the duties of this position efficiently and effectively. Must fluently read, write and speak English. Must have strong communications and training skills, and be able to communicate technical information to non-technical users.

Must be able to interpret and document customer support issues through inquiry and resolve in a timely manner; adhere to confidentiality policies; and be flexible in response to variable workloads, schedules, and locations.

Must reside within five (5) miles of the Sikeston City Limits within the first 12 months of employment; must maintain active landline or cellular telephone; will be required to successfully complete drug/alcohol screening and intensive background checks.

Education and/or Experience:

Associates Degree in computer related field plus two years or more experience in a help desk/desktop support environment and network environment.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

Applicant must hold A+ and Microsoft Desktop Support Technician Certifications. Preferred certifications include Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP) and/or CISCO Certified Technician. Must possess a valid motor vehicle operator’s license

Equipment Used or Operated: Hand tools, computer hardware, software and peripherals, basic office equipment, communications equipment, and motor vehicle.
