Many customers are asking questions regarding water usage & billing, here is an explanation of how this works.
Readings begin at the 1000 gallon read, you will not see the numbers after, as follows:
If your reading is 9999 the read will be 9000
If your reading is 999 then the read will be 0
For example your meter had the reading 9650 in January and the reading in February is 12250, your consumption will be calculated out as follows:
12000
- 9000
_____________
3000 gallons
The unbilled consumption will carry over to the next consumption billing period,
Below is an example of how this works.
February
Actual Consumption 3999 gal.
Customer billed for 3000 gal.
Carry over 999 gal.
March
New Consumption in billing period 2300 gal.
Plus carry over from Feb. 999 gal.
Total Consumption for March 3299 gal.
Customer pays for 3000 gal.
Carry over 299 gal.
April
New Consumption in billing period 3299 gal.
Plus carry over from March 299 gal.
Total Consumption for April 3598 gal.
Customer pays for 3000 gal.
Carry over 598 gal.
May
New Consumption in billing period 3500 gal.
Plus carry over from April 598 gal.
Total Consumption for May 4098 gal.
Customer pays for 4000 gal.
Carry over 98 gal.
As a reminder you should also know that consumption will also change according to the date meters have been read, attempts are made to keep the dates as close to the same as possible but, at times weather interferes and holidays may fall at the same time meters are read, so your consumption may be less or more than your normal usage.
