Citizen Police Academy
The Burlington Township Police Department invites residents of our community, twenty-one years of age or older, to participate in our Citizen Police Academy. Classes will begin Wednesday, September 21, 2011 and will continue each Wednesday night for 9 weeks until graduation on November 16, 2011. The classes will begin at 6 pm and will usually conclude by 9 pm.
The purpose of this Citizen Police Academy is to further foster a spirit of cooperation and understanding between the community and the Police Department. The academy will provide the citizens of Burlington Township with an opportunity to learn about their Police Department, the department mission and duties performed by the officers. Community participants will gain insight into the law enforcement’s role in the criminal justice system and daily work of our police officers. It is hoped that increasing the community awareness will challenge some of the myths and images of law enforcement and provide a realistic view of police procedures.
Class will be hands on and topics covered will include basic criminal law, search and seizure, patrol tactics, crimes scenes, traffic safety unit, motor vehicle crash investigation, gang awareness, demonstrations from Special Response Team (SRT), Police K-9 and firearms unit.
