Introduction

Cisco IP Communicator (CIPC) is a desktop application that turns your computer into a full-featured Cisco IP Phone, allowing you to place, receive, and otherwise handle calls.

Symantec IT Disclaimer

If the user is using CIPC over a remote connection (for example, on a VPN connection from home or a hotel), voice quality isnot guaranteed andcould suffer from insufficient bandwidth, jitter, high latency and packet loss.

Be aware that launching CPU-intensive applications and performing network-intensivetasks such as sending email may affect audio quality.Occasional pops, clicks, or broken audio might occur if the network is experiencing congestion or data traffic problems.

As always IT will support this technology to the best of our ability, but by using this technology the customer acknowledges that the quality is not something that IT will be held accountable for.

Troubleshooting

1. Verify your network configuration is correct (on Enterprise or HP)

If your network is already configured to resolve net.symantec.com, then you may skip this step. If you’re unsure, or if it has not been configured to resolve this domain suffix, follow the steps below to configure it on your system.

1.  Right-click on your desktop icon My Network Places and select Properties. A screen similar to the one below will appear.

2.  Right-click on the active connection (1394 Connection) and select Properties and the following screen will be presented. Scroll-down the list and high-light Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and then click the Properties button to get into the configuration menu.

4.  Click on the Advanced… button.

5.  Click on the Advanced… button to get into the Advanced TCP/IP Settings configuration window.

6.  Click on the DNS tab and, if it is not select, click on the radial dial button to Append these DNS suffixes (in order): and then click Add… button. In the pop-up box that appears, add net.symantec.com and then click Add.

2. Unable to connect to the TFTP Server (Going to default)

1.  Check the firewall settings. You may need to create a rule to permit UDP in either direction to allow it to connect to the TFTP server and register.
