Christian Child Development Center (CCDC) is a weekday ministry program of First United Methodist Church and has been

serving families with young children in the greater Lewisville area since the early 1970’s. We offer classes for children ages 18

months through Kindergarten.

Mission Statement: Christian Child Development Center provides a loving, nurturing, environment where children are encouraged

to develop spiritually, emotionally, socially, academically, and physically at their own pace.

“Nurturing Today…………Preparing For Tomorrow”

General Philosophy: Learning itself must be understood to be more than the role of learning details and the mechanics of skills.

In early childhood, learning must be the fulfillment of young children stretching outward toward a great variety of experiences

within which facts and skills are parts, but hardly the major part. We do not want to ‘push’ or ‘pull’ children - we want to

stimulate their curiosity for learning. Each child is guided to grow mentally, physically, emotionally, socially, and spiritually. The

three major drives that we feel must be satisfied in an early childhood program are as follows.

1. Curiosity

2. Interest in other children through informal role play

3. Handling emotional impulses

All three can take a lifetime to fulfill, but it is in early childhood that the shape of the fulfillment takes place. Children are not

to be molded, but are people to be unfolded. The most important aspect of our early childhood program is the development of a

healthy self-concept, “who we are as God’s children,” which is the basis of all learning.

Calendar: CCDC is a school year based program with classes scheduled from September to May each year. Our calendar closely

coincides with the LISD calendar, except for the beginning and end dates. We do observe LISD holidays, in-service days,

inclement weather days and emergency closings.

Enrichment Classes and Recess Time: Enrichment classes of music, movement/recess and chapel are each held for all children. Our

Pre-K4 classes have the same enrichment classes as Pre-K3 and add science and technology. Our 5-day classes for Pre-K5 and Kindergarten

include all the Pre-K4 enrichment classes and add Social Studies. Chapel is held in the Church Sanctuary. Enrichment classes are

led by additional instructors and are held in separate rooms. This provides students not only with the stimulation the class offers, but

also offers a change of scenery from the regular classroom.

All children will enjoy a daily period of supervised outside play on our CCDC playground. We have equipment to set up an indoor

non-climbing playground for bad weather days. The playground activities as well as the indoor play will encourage development

of large motor skills. The playground encourages running, climbing, kicking balls, etc. The indoor activities include bouncing

balls, throwing balls, parachute, balance beams, etc.

Special Events and Field Trips: Special Events include the Christmas Program, Spring Carnival, various classroom parties and

Field Day to end the year. Children in Pre-K5 and Kindergarten classes will participate in parent-driven field trips throughout

the school year. All field trips are announced in advance to the parents.

Discipline: The purpose of discipline is to help children become self-managing and socially responsible. CCDC will use redirection

as our first method of discipline. If redirection is not effective then we will have a time-out period (one minute per year of age).

In the event these methods are not effective, parents will be consulted for alternate ideas.

Tuition and Fees: Tuition is divided into 9 equal payments. Monthly payments are made beginning in July for all classes except

Kindergarten and Pre-K5. Kindergarten and Pre-K5 tuition payments are due monthly from May to January each year. The first supply

fee is due at the time of registration. The second supply fee is due in January. For PreK5 and Kindergarten supply fees will be

paid ½ at registration and ½ May 1st with the 1st months tuition. All Registration, Supply Fees and Tuition Payments are

NON-REFUNDABLE and NON-TRANSFERABLE for our Pre-K5 and Kindergarten classes. All other tuition is refundable

with a thirty day notice.

2014-2015 Tuition and Fees:

Note: Only one registration fee per student until May 31, 2014.

Class Hours: Monday through Friday 9am-1pm

Children learn through play and interaction with their surrounding environment. Our classes use curriculum from various sources

to introduce numbers, colors and shapes. There are many activities each day including, specials (chapel,music,movement/recess)

circle time, art and centers. We will make new friends, play with toys and puzzles, listen to stories, sing, and learn about God’s love.

CCDC follows the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills used by the school districts. The Pre-K 3’s,4’s,5’s curriculum utilizes

Frog Street Press and Alpha Tales along with various thematic units like friends, pets, space, Texas, dinosaurs and nutrition. Themes

Will include Bible stories and Bible verses. Pre-K3s focus on shapes, colors, numbers and are introduced to the alphabet through

name recognition. Pre-K4s study letters and phonetic awareness. These classes go to a separate class for music, movement/recess

and Chapel. Pre-K4s also participate in weekly science and technology classes. This is just a sampling of the fun and exciting learning

situations that CCDC children experience. Children MUST be able to use the restroom independently to attend Pre-K4 and older classes.

Pre-K Fives classes are offered for 5 year old children who are not ready for Kindergarten. The curriculum is from Houghton

Mifflin and incorporates Phonics, While Language (big books, journals, etc), and Learning Lab (manipulatives). We also include

individualized instruction, math, science, social studies, technology, field trips and special letter/theme experiences.

Kindergarten utilizes a combination of teaching methods to accommodate the learning styles of our children. The curriculum is

from Lippincott and uses Phonics (individual letter books, letter recognition, and letter sound, and blending letters into words),

Whole Language (big books, class and individually made books, inventive spelling, and word recognition/sight words), and

Learning Lab (manipulatives). We also include individualized instruction, math, science, social studies, technology, field trips and

special letter/theme experiences (cooking, airplane trip, pajama party day, hilarious hat day, etc) to provide high interest and

promote a love of learning.
